Gingrey says hes open to certain gun control measures (Georgia RINO)
The Marietta Daily Journal ^ | January 11, 2013 | Jon Gillooly

SMYRNA — U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Marietta) tackled such sensitive topics as gun reform, abortion and rape during the Smyrna Area Council of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce breakfast which took place Thursday at the Smyrna Community Center.

Gingrey said he was open to considering certain gun control measures in the wake of the Connecticut elementary school massacre.

“There are some problems, and maybe these huge magazines even for someone who says, ‘look, I just use an AR-15 for target practice,’ but do you really need to be standing there shooting at a silhouette a shot a second or even quicker with that kind of weapon? For what purpose?” Gingrey asked. “I would be willing to listen to the possibility of the capacity of a magazine.”

Gingrey, who took the time to praise Adventure Outdoors owner Jay Wallace as the gold standard for running a responsible gun retail business, said he is also open to revisions of the so-called gun show loophole.

“What it is basically, if you go to a gun show and there’s somebody out there in the parking lot, and they’re getting out of their car, and they’ve got an A-15 on their shoulder or …. John Q. Public wants to sell a handgun or whatever, then there’s no background check,” Gingrey said. “You know, you’re buying a used weapon from somebody and then basically no background check.”

With the sophistication of smartphone technology, there should be an application that allows someone selling a gun to run a background check with relative ease, he said...

Freedom is such a difficult concept for those without a sense of right and wrong.

Without a rock anchorage, mankind is adrift and no Godless philosophy can weasel it’s way around that fact.

Of course he’s open.

They’re going to disarm us.

The Constitution only protects them - it doesn’t protect us.

Now go pay your taxes - your hard working government needs the money. :)

We are in BIG trouble, because Gingrey has NOT been a "RINO". He consistently has rated between 92-100% on the ACU scale. Here is Nat'l Journal's 2012 listing of "Most Conservative" House members...

Most Conservative
1st (tie)
Diane Black, R-Tenn.: 94.0 (Composite Conservative score)
Stephen Fincher, R-Tenn.: 94.0 (Composite Conservative score)
Phil Gingrey, R-Ga.: 94.0 (Composite Conservative score)
Doug Lamborn, R-Colo.: 94.0 (Composite Conservative score)
Bob Latta, R-Ohio: 94.0 (Composite Conservative score)
Jeff Miller, R-Fla.: 94.0 (Composite Conservative score)
Tom Price, R-Ga.: 94.0 (Composite Conservative score)
Ben Quayle, R-Ariz.: 94.0 (Composite Conservative score)
Dennis Ross, R-Fla.: 94.0 (Composite Conservative score)
Lynn Westmoreland, R-Ga.: 94.0 (Composite Conservative score)

Well, Jay Leno doesn’t “need” over a hundred cars and twenty motorcycles but that damned ‘free economy’ and nothing in the Bill of Rights to boot. And I’ll bet some of the motorcycles don’t have airbags ...
Idiots like this GA lawmaker are going to get a lot of us killed. And the “Why does ya need that ta hunt?” maroons.
Let’s make a deal: Keep your mitts off the 2nd amendment and we won’t give you a ‘bump-shooting’ exhibition.

Mr Gingrey....the high capacity magazines are not for target shooting. They are not for duck hunting either.

When Americans lose their powerful firearms, world order and tyranny is next. There are very very very few countries left in the world where civilians can purchase firearms freely. I think Switzerland is one of those few.

“I would be willing to listen to the possibility of the capacity of a magazine.”

To what purpose sir?
One shot will kill you. Does it matter that a magizine has more? Why?
Years back when I was in Law Enforcement one of my weapons was a Dan Wesson .357
With 2 speed loaders I could put 18 rounds on target at 25 yards before you could duck and cover.
When 20 children are murdered does it matter that it took 2 minutes instead of 3 minutes?
If no magazine had existed that held more then 10 rounds would those children still be alive? No.
Lets stop pretending that this is about guns and admit this is about people. That sir is why no solution will happen. As a nation we lack the will to do anything about people

Maybe he should go to a 3-gun shoot sometime and see how it works. I recommend that he stand downrange so he can get the full affect.

They should put warning labels on guns.

“Do not use in gun free zones”

problem solved.

Enough of this gun talk.

I need my AR to protect my freedom from you, Mr. Gingrey.

That’s all I’m going to say on this matter. This isn’t open for discussion.

What you think does not matter to me, I do not need you.

If he wants to run on gun control as a Georgia Republican, he’s more than welcome. He can state his case to the people and if that’s they want, then more power to him.

Of course they don’t want that, so he’ll not only be on the losing side of the votes on this issue, but he’ll also be on the losing side of his next primary.

“We are in BIG trouble...”

No reason to panic yet. He can say whatever he wants, let’s just see how far he takes it. Also don’t forget that there are DOZENS have House Democrats that are scared to death as I type about having to vote on anything dealing with gun control.

From the article: “There are some problems, and maybe these huge magazines even for someone who says, ‘look, I just use an AR-15 for target practice,’ but do you really need to be standing there shooting at a silhouette a shot a second or even quicker with that kind of weapon? For what purpose?” Gingrey asked. “I would be willing to listen to the possibility of the capacity of a magazine.”

Another leftist RINO, jockeying for position ahead of his next campaign cycle. Inaccurate political relativism on display for all to see.

The Second Amendment was crafted to confront and overcome the very same attacks on Americans’ God-given rights as we are presently witnessing. It has nothing to do with firing rate in practice sessions. It has nothing to do with hunting or sport shooting in any form.
It has everything to do with protecting America from an oppressive government like the one we have today.
