Durbin Reintroduces Assault Weapons Ban In Congress
WBBM-FM ^ | January 25, 2013

Creating gun laws is one thing, but convincing people to support them is something else. That was the job of Vice President Joe Biden on Friday, when he held a roundtable discussion on gun control in Virginia.

CBS 2’s Mike Puccinelli reports new laws could be tough to sell at gun shows, like one held in suburban Rosemont on Friday. Organizers said it was the first gun show in Cook County in as many as 50 years.

Gun shows have come under increased scrutiny since the school shooting massacre in Newtown, Conn., because in the vast majority of states, gun sales at such shows are largely unregulated.

“What will it take to move this nation when it comes to sensible gun laws? What will it take to move Congress when it comes to sensible gun laws? It took Newtown, Connecticut,” U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) said.

Durbin reintroduced legislation designed to prohibit the sale of 157 military-style assault weapons.

“People don’t use assault weapons with 30- or 100-round magazines to go hunting, and they sure don’t use them for self-defense,” Durbin said...

Too bad prices are through the roof so to speak. In a way, I appreciate the gun grabbers. The left was doing an bangup job of hiding how radical they truly are. Now they’re out in the open. Oh, they still pay lip service to the constitution and the rule of law (for now), but it’s obvious they mean to create a totalitarian state. They want to control it all, except sodomy and abortion of course. What we eat and drink, how cold or hot are our homes, where we live, etc. There is very little they don’t want to regulate, and the choice between freedom or servitude is becoming clearer and clearer every day.

If I didn’t know better I would swear that bill was written by Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot or some other despicable leftist tyrant.

Sorry, 2ndDivisionVet some of the people might not recognize just "Durbin," would be better to use a name he earned, "Turban" Durbin reintroduced legislation ... / end of sarc. Not sure if it's sarcasm, or truth.

Iraq War

Durbin voted against the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq in Oct. 2002.

During the 2002 debate over the resolution giving President Bush the authority to use military force against Iraq, then House Minority Whip Durbin proposed an amendment (S.AMDT.4865) requiring that an "imminent" threat be present before turning to force. Opponents believed this language was too restrictive and that the president ought to have the right to use force in the face of a "continuing" threat from Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. The amendment failed 30-70. Main article: Congressional actions on the Iraq War prior to the 2003 U.S. invasion

In 2003, during the debate over the FY2004 Defense Appropriations bill, Durbin introduced an amendment (S.AMDT.1277) to withhold $50 million in intelligence funding until President Bush submitted a report explaining how his administration handled the intelligence leading up to the Iraq War. Supporters argued that the measure would force the administration to be accountable for intelligence used to justify the war. Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) joined every other Senate Republican in opposing the amendment, tabling the measure. He called it "nitpicking" by the Democrats and argued that "history shows clearly that Iraq has tried to acquire and did acquire nuclear capability in the past."

“Civil War not too far off now.”

I have heard similar sentiments an awful lot lately, from a wide range of sources. When such sentiments are so common, the subject is no longer far-fetched.

The primary purpose of the 2nd Amendment is so the People would be able to defend themselves asgainst tyrants like Dick Durbin. The Founders were VERY clear about that. Hell, even Democrat heroes such as JFK and Hubert Humphrey acknowledged that.

Did he pull a Feinstein and tell us that he was actually “protecting” our rights to over 2,000 other weapons?

Sen. Durbin can run in 2014, and Chad Koppie, a conservative Republcian, told me that he’ll run, in that race. Chad is pro-gun rights, pro-life, pro-tax cuts, pro-spending cuts, and anti-illegal alien. His blog is chadkoppiescampaign.blogspot.com.
