Although he fills an obvious gap for his party, the odds are stacked against him
With Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) giving the Republican response to President Obama's State of the Union address, many are asking if he's the answer to his party's electoral woes.
Time magazine even put him on the cover and asked if he's the Republican savior.
But there are three big reasons why it's unlikely the Florida senator is on a fast track to the presidency in 2016.
1. Republicans almost always pick the next guy in line.
Ever since the untested Sen. Barry Goldwater (R-Ariz.) lost in a historic landslide in 1964, the Republican Party has nearly always picked a nominee who has previously run for national office. The one exception is George W. Bush — and he was the son of a former president.
2. Rubio would face a very tough field.
The 2012 Republican primaries included many candidates who had no shot at ever winning the nomination. The 2016 field is likely to be packed with plausible candidates. Seasoned politicians like Chris Christie, Bobby Jindal, Rick Perry, and Paul Ryan are already lined up and mulling possible bids....

So his parents were not Cuban nationals when he was born in Florida? Not that that matters anymore, except for Republicans.
I like Sarah Palin. I think she was railroaded by the despicable media. However, she has absolutely no chance of winning a national election. This election proved that a strong portion of this country gets their political news from the Daily Show, Colbert Report, SNL, etc. Sarah Palin will be forever associated with Tiny Fey’s characterization. I don’t agree with the characterization, but that’s just the state of the nation.
I’m not a fan of all of Marco’s policies. However, he’s excellent at articulating conservative principles and the American dream. I won’t have a problem with supporting him, although he’s not my first choice.
Much as I wish it weren’t true, the possibility of a GOPer being elected to the White House is essentially nil. This is a D+6 national electorate that will likely expand to D+8 by 2016. The GOP’s strength is in statehouses.

You honestly think half the ‘conservatives’, much less full boat Republicans care? Look at any Rubio thread on FR.
A good number of posters are falling over the guy and just ignoring his amnesty BS and having a conniption fit if anyone points out his gross failures in adherence to the party platform. It will be Rubio, Christie or Jeb Bush.

It may have been debated many time, like you just did, but I'd hardly call that refuted.
Besides, with a sign-up date only 4 months old, you couldn't have been a part of that "many times" debate unless you were here under a previous screen-name.

Neither Rubio nor “seasoned politicians like Chris Christie, Bobby Jindal, Rick Perry, and Paul Ryan” will ever be receiving my vote. If the GOPe rigs things so that a conservative can’t be the nominee, and they foist their RINOs upon us, I will be writing in Palin/West once again.
Rubio would be just as well to have RINO tattoed on his forehead.
I know nothing of Bush, other than he's unelectable due to his name.
Christie is a gun grabbing Democrat in all but name and I would never in my life vote for him (and I voted for Romney). Rubio isn't much better.
I'm left thinking Rand Paul is the best option we have. Or some Governor that the MSM has completely ignored.
Suffice it to say, the future of the Republic is not looking good.
That's fine. Levin just argued the meaning of the word "the" to the DC Circuit Court regarding recess appointments. Let me know when he takes up the NBC issue in the courts -- I have some Preamble questions for him.
Until then, it's another opinion, not a refutation.

You'd better believe that the Dems would notice this and make a fuss over it in the MSM. Even though they've said it's an outdated, obsolete, misinterpreted provision of the Constitution when Obama's natural born bona-fides were questioned, they would jump all over Rubio's or Jindal's. As we all should (but didn't for Obama).
I could care less about who they stick in as nominee unless it is a Sarah Palin or someone of that nature. Rubio should stay in the Senate and stay put. As for the rest of them, who cares. They will dangle Jeb Bush and all the Rino’s will jump. Heard a political figure today on radio from Florida, Lou Fry and he said they will put up Jeb and Rubio. Makes me want to puke quite frankly. Also answers the reason why I dropped out of the REC of my county. So over this crap.
Well, I’d reckon a good portion of the discussion regarding Rubio’s status has occurred since November.
It’s a non-issue. There’s not a court in the land that’s questioning Rubio’s status at a natural born citizen. It’s a non-sequitor used by Rubio detractors.

His logic stinks ... there’s no “next in line” available at this point. Odds are now in favor of Christie / Rubio ticket...Christie hugely popular (pun intended) and Rubio is in for seasoning...this is your new Republican Party, same as the old Republican Party...
