Rand Paul’s Filibuster: Re-Claiming his Father’s Tea Party (Huh? What?)
Independent Voter Network ^ | March 7, 2013 | Chad Peace, Director of Operations and Founder

Posted on 03/07/2013 11:16:37 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The modern day tea party movement took shape in 2007. Yet, it is hardly a reflection of the anti-war, anti-deficit, pro-civil liberty message that propelled its early popularity.

During a time of impending recession, a government that had taken us to endless wars on false pretenses, and an unprecedented expansion of government under eight years of “conservative” leadership, the tea party began as a fundraising rally cry for a then relatively unknown dark horse candidate, Representative Ron Paul.

The first “modern day tea party” was held on the anniversary of the original Boston Tea Party, December 16, 2007. In a 24 hour period, in concert with symbolic and peaceful tea party re-enactments across the country, Paul supporters dumped 5.2 million dollars into the long-shot presidential campaign along with fake tea boxes spray painted with slogans like “End the Patriot Act,” “End the War in Iraq,” “End the War on Drugs,” and “End the Fed.”

There were no anti-gay boxes. No one had a picture of a fetus on their boat. And no one, and I mean no one, had a Sarah Palin sticker on their car.

Not until mid-February of 2009, when Rick Santelli gave a now infamous rant on CNBC, did the more religiously radical and racially declined start waving the “Don’t Tread on Me” flags poached with all the irony that individual liberty and theocracy can muster on the dance floor....

Judging by the content of the article, the IVN staff is clearly comprised of dyed-in-the-wool Paulsheviks.*

* I intend this term to be derogatory of Ron’s supporters, not Rand’s.

I think this author may have confused the “Tea Party” with “Occupy Wall Street.”

They just know that he’s anti-war, anti-Israel and pro-Marijuana. That’s all they need to hear.

Without the underpinning of moral absolutes, mere fiscal "Conservatism" is an empty vessel. Bring pro-God, pro-life and pro-gun are at core of authentic Conservatism. All else then logically follows in line.

The inhabitants of Sodom and Gommorah may have very well favored low taxes and a small government. If so, that didn't make them Conservative. Having they turned away from God, they were nothing but liberals.

I think that’s actually his real name. I chuckled, too, when I first saw it, but delving deeper into the bowels of that website, it seems he’s the head honcho of that disparate little group of hippies.

Yeah, I was a good looking man when I was 23 years old, too. Let’s see where they are 30 years down the road.

Yeah, notice how they act like Rick Santelli’s rant on CNBC - which gave name to the tidal wave movement that was building - is something that just sort of added on to Ron Paul’s massive movement.

What a bunch of Paul-tards indeed. And yes, I exempt the Rand Paul folks from that term.

Looks like a groupthink cult photo to me. Yet they claim to be independent (thinking) voters. Hippies. They’re like weeds. You can dig them up, spray them out, but they still manage to sprout out of nowhere.

.
Actually, most of Ron’s following are fairly wealthy techies (engineers, programmers, etc) and are more likely to be protested by the Occupy zombies.

Looks like a groupthink cult photo to me.

Except for a possible Oriental, they're all white in that picture. Contrast that with the real Tea Party which does have members of all colors:

I am by no means an advocate of forced diversity or multiculturalism. Yet true Conservatism just naturally crosses all color lines and ethnicities.

AFAICS they are two separate movements, but at the point in 2012 that TEA Party Express began their cross country trek, the two had melded together on those rallies, and there was a vocal Ron Paul contingent at each of them.

Are we talking about the same Tea Party?

It had nothing at all to do with Ron Paul. Not that it was actively hostile, but it was not a Ron Paul operation in any way.
