Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) doubled down Monday in his opposition to expanding Medicaid under President Obama's healthcare law, even though opposing it could cost his state $90 billion.
At a press conference where he was flanked by other conservatives, Perry argued expanding the health insurance program for the poor would make Texas hostage to the federal government.
It would benefit no one in our state to see their taxes skyrocket and our economy crushed as our budget crumbled under the weight of oppressive Medicaid costs, Perry said at the state capitol.
States can choose whether or not to allow the federal expansion of Medicaid under the Supreme Courts decision last year to uphold ObamaCare.....

#3 is what I used to try to explain to CA libs that complained about sending so much money to the Federal Gov’t. I would ask them if they could keep the money sent to the Fed that is supposed to be local anyway wouldn’t that help CA budget? Since most of them are commes and believe in central gov’t, it went over their heads.

The people leaving California are generally conservatives, who are sick to death of liberals.

Good for Perry! Love that he was surrounded by a group of conservatives, including Sen. Ted Cruz, when he made this latest statement.
Take that, lily-livered John Zerwas (RINO-TX) - who's pressuring Perry to expand Medicaid. Zerwas wants the HHS Commissioner to be *empowered* to make *reforms* to Medicaid.

37% of those under 19 in Texas are on Medicaid. They arent seceding from anything.
As soon as amnesty passes - which Perry is all for - the state will be purple, maybe even blue.

Exactly. I don't see why otherwise-intelligent people here don't get this. White flight has been going on for some time now from CA - and it is the conservative producers that are leaving. Why would a liberal leave their utopia? Most states should be thrilled to have people with money and conservative values move in.
When I traveled to KY and TN this summer, and told everyone I talked to that I was on a relocation trip because we were escaping CA - they were very positive about having us move there. They knew we wouldn't be escaping if we were liberals and that we'd bring our resouces to be used in their state. Smart people - and also very kind and have adorable accents.

LOL it’s California, New Jersey, and Wisconsin with accents. We talk normally ‘round here ;)
