Sen. Marco Rubio’s approval rating is six points lower with Hispanics than George W. Bush’s, so the Republican Party thinks it is a great idea to put him on all 5 Sunday shows.
The Republican “rebrand” strategy is centered around making Sen. Marco Rubio the face of immigration reform. The problem is that Hispanics aren’t flocking to the Florida Republican. A new poll from NBC News/WSJ/Telemundo found that despite months of efforts to elevate Rubio, the senator’s approval rating with Hispanics is 23%. Twenty five percent of those polled were neutral, 12% had a negative opinion, and 40% didn’t know him. On the surface, these numbers don’t seem all that bad. The fact that Rubio is a relative unknown could provide upside for his approval.
Republicans might be feeling good about Rubio if the same poll didn’t reveal that George W. Bush’s approval rating with Hispanics is six points higher (29%) than Marco Rubio’s (23%). President Obama’s approval rating with Hispanics is almost three times larger than Rubio’s (64%), but not even the president can match potential 2016 candidate Hillary Clinton’s approval rating of 65%.
The GOP is responding to this lukewarm reception for Rubio by putting him on all five of the Sunday news shows tomorrow as their face of immigration reform. Just like they did with women and Sarah Palin, Republicans are acting on the assumption that Hispanic Americans will vote for them if they promote a Hispanic person.
Instead of admitting that the problem is what they stand for, Republicans are trying to once again put a different race/gender/ethnicity on the same failed platform.
Splashing Marco Rubio’s face all over television on Sunday morning isn’t going send Hispanics back to the Republican Party.....

Republican Governor Susana Martinez of New Mexico, who is a Mexican-American, received just 39% of the Hispanic vote in 2010.
Has anyone here seen a breakdown of the Florida Hispanic vote for Rubio?
Factor out Cubans, and I'll bet Rubio got less than 40% of the Hispanic vote, too.
One more thing.....
The average American Hispanic feels no ethnic connection to some white, upper middle class, Cuban guy.
There are a lot of varieties of “Hispanic”, and they are not always fond of one another.
I always understood that the rest of Latin Americans do not like Cubans that well. Even their Spanish is quite different than other Spanish speaking peoples.

Well the good news is that Marco Rubirino is going to commit political suicide with his amnesty stance. Rand Paul is eclipsing him even as we speak. The GOP leadership will just have to deal with it.
Around 1960, almost the entire Cuban professional class fled the island and came to south Florida.
Most of them were direct ancestors of Spaniards, all of them were penniless, they integrated instantly into the American culture, they had an astounding work ethic, they voted Republican, and they completely transformed the economy of Dade County in 15 years.

Many were Black, many were ex-cons, and most of them had limited education and limited skills.

I had a lot of business dealings with Cubans in the 1970’s. I know what you mean about the racial division. One older guy I had extensive dealings with had blue eyes and silver blond hair-he was an older man. I developed mixed feelings about them.

What are the black-robe bumkissers of the SCOTUS waiting for; for Obama to appoint Raúl Castro and Bill Maher? Take an appeal already and tell us what a citizen is, and especially what a natural born Citizen is.

A regular tower of Babel we've become. Apparently something that can only be overcome by a black looking but mostly Arab/white whose mother was a US citizen and whose supposed father was from Kenya even though he grew up in Indonesia and was raised by a transvestite nanny and an anti-American mother before he went to Hawaii where he was a lazy druggie.

Rubio is a Florida hispanic, Bush was a Texan long before he became president. They knew and respected him from his being governor of Texas.
The first generation definitely had divided loyalties.
They dreamed of returning to the lives and property they left behind in Cuba.
No question they were Republican voters, though.
Interestingly, Rubio’s father and mother arrived in Miami in 1956, but certainly not as political refugees, not from Castro, anyway.
Fidel Castro was essentially unknown in 1956, even in Cuba.
I lived through that whole period in Lauderdale.
The local Catholic churches sponsored thousands of kids who were allowed to emigrate before their parents.
Every class in my elementary school had three or four Cuban kids, so maybe my perspective is a little different.
The young man beginning the call with, "Chairman Reince Preibus has a message for you......" when I stopped him and thanked him for his efforts but said that I had a "message for Chairman Reince Preibus, that I wasn't interested in him, what he thinks, especially about his 'new direction' in the GOP and that until he's gone, not to expect one dime from me from now on."
I went on by telling him that no candidate could ever expect a dime from me in advance of his or her running for office as I'd been betrayed by them all way too many times to ever believe one again. I said that they all lie to get money and votes, then go to DC and vote for things I absolutely hate and never want to see in this country, just like the Democrats!
I continued by telling him that any money at all that I "might donate" to a Republican would be only on one that has a proven record of voting on bills that he promised to support and voting against bills that he said he would NOT support.
I finished by telling him that not only could Chairman not expect anything from me now or in the foreseeable future, I'm not certain that they could even expect my vote!
He's not even a good wolf in sheep's clothing for his furry teeth show every time he smiles.
If I were in FL, I'd certainly rue the day I supported him for office.
He's an obvious liar and has no interest in what's lawful and best for the U.S.A.
