Frank Luntz and Focus Groups are Destroying the GOP Message
American Thinker ^ | April 29, 2013 | C. Edmund Wright

Frank Luntz may smugly believe that Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin and other right wing talk radio hosts are "responsible for the stark polarization within the nation's political discourse" and therefore "problematic" for the Republican Party.

I submit the problem is that Luntz, and a misguided over-reliance on focus groups, has neutered and thus destroyed any semblance of courage in the GOP's message. Luntz is conflating, as many wonks and number crunchers do, cause and effect with regard to the bigger realities and polarization. The country is polarized because, well, we are polarized. Rush and "the great one" didn't make it so simply by speaking the truth. And pretending to believe the same absurdities the lo-info crowd believes won't make us any less polarized either. Logic dictates that as long as we run low information campaigns, we'll suffer at the hands of the low information voter.

Meanwhile, it is becoming obvious that Luntz has become a prisoner of his own results over the years, and as such, has become obsessed with what misinformation voters already believe. He seems to have lost interest in the value of persuading voters to believe the truth. To Luntz, and to Karl Rove, and in fact most to Republican consultants, a poll or a focus group is not the starting point for voter education, it is the end point for candidate capitulation. This explains the constant surrender in the arena of ideas by candidates and spokes persons who are ostensibly on "our side."

Rove admitted as much to the big money donors when he was forced to explain why the message -- from the Romney Campaign and from Rove's Crossroads organizations -- was so tepid....

Exactly. When did Luntz start caring so passionately about the future of the GOP?

Looks like Luntz is just part of the same GOP elite game.

Karl Rove. And where you find Rove, you find Norquist. Norquist just announced a poll...said 67% of republicans want this gang of 8 amnesty. Rove’s Crossroads gives millions a year to Norquist.

LIE of the WEEK! More Norquist Nasties!

I wish Hannity would quit praising Luntz, Rove, et al.

What do Luntz, Rove, Beckel, Lieberman, Juan Williams to name a few have in common?

Friends of Hannity

The present leadership has a record of being incapable of responding and conducting a winning campaign unwilling to destroy political opposition. Consider the missed opportunities offered by the 2012 election.http://www.theusmat.com/

WAS IT INCOMPETENCE ?

To borrow from Rush Limbaugh for those living Riolinda a Judas goat is used to lead US sheeples to the slaughter pen . The Republicans were given a chance to use a wedge issue to split up the democratic party and blew it.

Besides being unable to equate Obama’s socialist schemes particularly his energy policy running up the costs on everything and still is thus forcing those with limited incomes to go on the dole. BTW the angle here is to blame the system not the folks using it. Because they have to. But it’s a signature of Rove’s past performances when with Bush. The demo-coms used it because it fell into “heartless Republicans”.
Blaming Obama and explaining that policy in terms those proverbial LIV’s could understand wasn’t even considered. Refusing to attack Obama was based on MSM polling showing his popularity suggesting an intellectual inability by Rove and the GOPES to rejoin any racial charge.

....Does anybody remember what the Democrats did at their 2012 convention ??? First they eliminated any mention of the word GOD...and when they thought twice about doing that they reintroduced the resolution what happened ? They booed God..thrice..That resolution was rammed through just like the Affordable Health Care Act ...That’s a wedge issue within the democrat party.which was not exploited by RINOS and GOPES and the Republicans generally to this day. To properly describe that episode .Its the marriage of the radical and democrat into the hyphenated Demo-Com union.

Was that fact used in any of the material Rove’s RINOS spewed forth during the 2012 Romney or US senate races his group of GOPES (Government Ofthe People Elite Snobs) used on their hit list ? I like using that acronym because it rhymes with dopes.

Noooo ! They could have used that episode to point out how far to the left the democrat party has hyphenated into; Demo-Coms ...Instead well we don’t like Aikin ...He said what ? OMG OMG he’s unqualified ...If there was a chance he would have been burned at the stake by Rove’s RINOS and the so called “conservative “ talkies spouting Rove’s tripe.

The Aikin or O’Donnells response to a set up phoney issue had nothing to do with any thing that would ever occur in any legislation that would pass their respective desks had they been elected.

THE RESPONSE YOU DIDN’T HEAR WAS THIS “”While at their convention the Democrats were busy denying God . Aikin believes in something like the ten commandments. Including Thou shalt not steal and doesn’t believe that getting elected to office gives you a license to do steal ... Which his opponent seems to have done rather well since being in office. The same thing with Mourdock,O’Donnnell, etc, etc, etc.

That presentation could have been expanded to Reid, Pelosi, and the slew of Demo-Com pigs at the trough. Expanding their personal wealth at the expense of the US taxpayers.

Now his bunch seems to be saying if you hold a religious view don’t run for office... We’re gonna save the Republican party ....to be finished off by Obama and the hypenated democrats..
Rove,Preibus,Luntz, the GOPES and RINOS are wrong for America and wrong for the Republican party...

Truth and conservatism are intellectual pursuits, and as such, cannot be explained or even properly contemplated within the confines of a single focus group or poll result.

Deciding that something is a value by polls and focus groups is a method of social metaphysics and groupthink mentality. Objective values are determined by a process of cognition based on reality and a proper standard of value which are able to produces principles.

Sean Hannity is NOWHERE near as conservative as the character he plays on TV. Research him.

True leaders don’t run to a “focus group” or poll to find out what the people want. They figure out what is right and then do it, while working to convince and persuade the people to also act on behalf of what is right.

And the Republican Party is almost completely bereft of true leaders.

There’s your problem right there.

The country has undergone a tremendous shift to the left. Luntz, Rove and others who profit from politics are merely following the shift to the left. Remember we who post on the forum are more conservative than most. That does not say we are wrong just a few. Like the Marines “We are a few good men!”

Poll after poll shows that the electorate is 40% conservative, 20% liberal and the rest are some sort of moderate or independent.

"Frank Luntz and Focus Groups are Destroying the GOP Message"

We need more censorship! That is the only way to solve this.

/sarcasm off/ What we really need is more people speaking the truth.
