Former Vice presidential candidate Sarah Palins Sarah PAC contributed $5,000 on 5/14 to Jason Smith (R-Mo.), who is running in the Missouri 8th District Special General Election on 6/4. The seat was vacated by Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.) in January. Emerson is now the CEO of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
Smith, who is the Speaker Pro Tem of the Missouri House of Representatives, reported raising $200,313 from 4/1 to 5/15, and has $228,147 cash on hand as of 5/15. Smith raised $114,083 from individuals, including $5,200 from Anthony Kelly (owner, Precision Tent Rental, MO); $5,200 from Charlotte Lucas (secretary, Lucas Oil, IN); and $5,200 from Forrest Lucas (owner, Lucas Oil, IN); among others.
Smith also received $4,500 from nine individuals at the Washington, D.C. lobbying firm of Livingston Group LLC. These included Mark Maddox $500; J. Allen Martin $500; former Rep. William Zeliff $500; Bernie Robinson $250; Steven Kreseski $250; Gregory James $500; Martin Cancienne $1,000; Paul Cambon $500; and former Rep. Robert Livingston $500.
Besides Sarah PAC, the American Society of Anesthesiologists PAC also gave $5,000, as well as the National Cattlemens Beef Association PAC. During the period PACs gave $82,749.
Jason Smith for Congress spent $62,588 on media expenses and another $18,096 on TV expenses; $23,600 on research; $18,833 on payroll; among others. Smith has raised $509,919 so far in 2013.
Steve Hodges (D-Mo.), a Missouri state representative, reported raising $107,728 from 4/1 to 5/15. He raised $51,223 from individuals and $32,550 from PACs and other committees. Hodges spent $20,896 on payroll; $24,400 on polling and campaign strategy. Hodges has $142,103 cash on hand as of 5/15. Hodges has raised $228,501 in 2013.
Little chance we’ll lose this one. It hasn’t elected a Democrat since 1978.

Anyone know if Jason Smith is a LOT more conservative than Emerson, who I believe was a bit of a RINO? That would be cool if true. Kind of like Cruz in place of KBH in the Senate...
Interesting aside, this is Rush’s hometown district with Cape Girardeau in it.
