Democratic Party is stuck in a sorry state
The San Angelo Standard Times ^ | June 12, 2013 | Ann McFeatters

In a recent column we discussed the sad state of the Republican Party.

Today’s Republicans lack original ideas and a positive agenda. The leading Tea Party politicians — such as Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint and Michele Bachmann — don’t seem to like to do the work of staying in office.

Despite more than a decade of war, Republicans keep trying to get us into more wars. They like to restrict individual freedoms, except for any restraints on buying guns. And Republicans want businesses to be able to do just about whatever they want to do.

Now let’s turn our attention to the sorry state of the Democratic Party.

During the eight years of the George W. Bush presidency, Democrats, including Barack Obama, publicly deplored the excesses of enforcement of the Patriot Act and the loss of civil liberties stemming from the “war on terror.” It turns out Democrats have continued most of these infringements and added to them.

Under the direction of the Obama administration, as was also done by the previous Bush administration, the National Security Agency has been given access by secret court authorization to the phone records (but not call content) of millions of Americans. Under the Obama administration, reporters and their sources no longer can be assured of their privacy.

The Obama administration has gone to almost unprecedented lengths to investigate the sources of leaks. A major leak, which resulted in providing CIA information to the producers of the film “Zero Dark Thirty,” was apparently announced at an event by then-Pentagon chief Leon Panetta. Oops....

Yeh, it’s getting more and more difficult for them to differentiate themselves from Republicans, since the Republicans keep immitating them so well.

I always hear liberals talking about how Republicans just want to control everything and limit their freedoms, and it always confounds me. Just once, I’d love to see a list of what a liberal thinks a Republican wants to control. Abortion rights? Gay marriage? That’s about it. And limits on both have solid reasoning behind them.

Do we want to keep you from driving an SUV? No. Do we want to restrict what food you can eat? No. What you can say to a person? No. Working at a coal-fired power plant? No. Building a house within 150 feet of lake shore? No. Using gasoline? Nope. Talking about religion? No. Listening to talk radio? No. Buying a gun? No.

I think when you map out restrictions on the Freedoms Chart, the Democrat column is a lot longer than the Republican side. Thus, the premise of this woman’s whole argument is suspect.

——————————————————————————————WW1 was under a democrat administration, so was ww2 and the war in Korea.

And they want businesses to be able to do just about anything they want.

And what is wrong with that Ann McFeatters? that is why this country has been so great, that is why most of the people in the world have always wanted to be here instead of the socialist cesspools where they are.

But you are in the past about 30 or 40 years because there is no such thing as free enterprise any more, the businesses have been taxed to death, there are no mom and pop restaurants where people can eat or drink coffee and visit just like they were home.

Its all gone because people seem to think the actions of every one needs to be controlled by the Government instead of the other way around, the way it was set up to be.

Its all gone Ann, you just need to come back from the past to where we really are and you can see what a good job people like you have done.
