Ted Cruz filibuster: Is Cruz now 'president' of US conservatives?
Yahoo! News / The Christian Science Monitor ^ | September 25, 2013 | Peter Grier

The many hours Ted Cruz & friends spent in their overnight talkathon (not really a filibuster) in the Senate has thrilled conservatives who feel the GOP establishment consists of careerist sell-outs.

Is Ted Cruz now the leader of US conservatives? That’s a fair question in the wake of his lengthy overnight talkathon against Obamacare on the Senate floor.

As of mid-morning on Wednesday, Texas Senator Cruz, along with Sen. Mike Lee (R) of Utah and assorted allies, had spoken for some 20 hours. That constitutes one of the longest Senate speeches since record-keeping began in 1900, and it has thrilled those on the right who feel the Republican Party establishment consists of careerist sell-outs.

“Ted Cruz and Mike Lee will not get the forty-one votes they need to sustain their filibuster. They will be betrayed by Republican senators who are willing to fund Obamacare while claiming to vote against it. But in this filibuster and in their brilliant strategy, they have exposed Republicans who will not fight,” wrote influential conservative pundit Erick Erickson on RedState Wednesday.

Technically speaking, Cruz, Lee, et al are not filibustering. They’re merely holding the floor in advance of a scheduled cloture vote Wednesday on a government spending bill that contains a provision defunding Obamacare. But that’ s a procedural distinction that’s probably lost on most voters. They see a tired lawmaker who has referenced Star Wars, Dr. Seuss, White Castle hamburgers, and his choice of footwear, and figure he’s doing the same thing that Sen. Rand Paul (R) of Kentucky did in March when he conducted an actual filibuster against Obama administration drone policies.....

He is most certainly the leader of the opposition. The minority leader SHOULD be, but he’s always WITH the opposition, as is his lieutenant, and HIS lieutenant.

Erickson, who I don’t usually like much, is right on the money with his statement.

Cruz is smart. He’s not out there as the lone symbol of constitutional conservatives. I like the colalition he’s putting together, including Rubio. Rubio just burnt all bridges to the RINO side. And that give-and-take with Rand Paul? Fantastic.

you nailed it.

If he walks and talks like Reagan for the next 2 years he is going to be the next president

the only one I would prefer more than him right now is Palin, and my current dream ticket is Palin/Cruz

Had a nice chat with Rubio’s office today. They were glad to be in the fight. Id say look for bigger stuff out of both Cruz/Rubio/Lee in the future.

Me too!

But I get a gut feeling, that like Debra in the Old Testament, she'll only step into the fray if there are no Men to lead.

Right now, it appears that Senator Ted Cruz has decided to Lead!

See what happens when a GOP pol demonstrates and leads with conservative principles? There should be a chamber full of Cruz and Lee types but the great ones are very few indeed.
