(David Frum) A tea party exit would be a blessing for the GOP
CNN Op ^ | 10-14-2013 | David Frum

Posted on 10/15/2013 8:16:05 AM PDT by Sir Napsalot

"Do the Republican and Democratic parties do an adequate job of representing the American people, or do they do such a poor job that a third major party is required?"

A record 60% of Americans now yearn for a third major party, according to Gallup. Independents, unsurprisingly, are most likely to favor a third party, but a majority of self-described Republicans say yes, too. But what do they mean by that "yes"?

(snip) But here's a caution about third parties in American history: They are much more likely to arise on the fringes of the political system, not the center. ......

(snip) Pragmatists want to change the GOP so that it can win elections and govern effectively. Tea party Republicans prefer to express their principles regardless of consequences, which is why the Pew survey in September found that 71% of them favored a government shutdown even though nearly 40% of them expected that shutdown to have a "major" impact on the economy. .....

Sorry David. I elected Senator Cruz to be in Washington getting up the noses of liberals of both parties. He's going to be there for a while, and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it.

I love it when demtards and rino’s offer their help to us, and make recommendations on what we should do to defeat them.

I never would have known how bad the TEA party is without them.

And they only have our best interests in mind...

THANKS!

But what do they mean by that "yes"?

We want the David Frums of the world to depart our conservative party.

They are really getting scared of the Tea Party the closer we get to 2014. The more articles I read about how unpopular they are, and how they are blocking everything, the more I am convinced the opposite is true..

(David Frum) A tea party exit would be a blessing for the GOP

Of course he thinks it would be a blessing, because it would ensure that the GOP would not win another presidential election.

==

It could also have unintended consequence -- a strong conservative party could emerge and replace the GOP as an effective opposition party.

If that were to happen, the remaining GOP would eventually merge with the Democrats, as their philosophies are closer.

What Frum and other dumb-dumbs refuse to get is that their never-ending quest to ‘win elections and govern effectively’ is not winning elections and is destroying the country. To the DC class, ‘governing effectively’ is McCain-world for the Republicans buying into 60% of the Democratic plan and signing off on it in a civilized manner. That is successful governing to the political class...Not upsetting the DC media. Not being concerned about the direction of the country or the well-being of people, or responding to the wishes of their voters.

No thanks.

Ah, the Frumtard speaks!
He’d love a pure one party system of complete and total Dem rule it seems.
All this “not going along to get along” makes him itch I guess.
He sees complete and total surrender to the liberal point of view as “pragmatic”, he forgets that surrendering to the Dems in the past two presidential elections and nominating a left leaning candidate has not worked.

As if they’ll suddenly love Republicans if the Tea Party leaves.

Look at how they treated Romney and McCain when they were the nominees, they might as well have been tea-partiers to them.

And don’t think if Christie is the nominee, they won’t treat him exactly the same.

Yeah, just as Reagan’s exit from office was a blessing, so they could go back to losing again.

Oh I see...it is more important to ‘win’ the election than to stand up and be counted for what you believe in..I get it, But NO Thank You. I am a stand up for what you believe in person. Win or Not.

Yes. Then they could go back to being the Washington Generals of politics. The genial spirit of Bob Michel could reign over the Capitol again and Upper West Side cocktail parties would again be cosy places for kept faux conservative pundits.

A new party - an American Party - is absolutely necessary if the US is not to continue devolving into a soviet style mullahcracy.

It may be too late already.

He seems to forget that the GOP began as a third party. It was a breakaway faction of the Whigs.

And don’t think if Christie is the nominee, they won’t treat him exactly the same.

Christie is the preferred candidate of the Main Stream Media. They can't wait for him to get the nomination, and then they'll turn on him relentlessly.

I can only imagine Mika doing a 180, as she focuses on his weight, i.e. "we can't have an obese man in the White House, what kind of message would that send to the world?"
