Democrats insist they can thwart Chris Christie (R) if he seeks the White House in 2016, despite the broad appeal he showed in winning reelection last week.
Even though the New Jersey governor secured more than 60 percent of the votes against state Sen. Barbara Buono (D), Democratic strategists in the Garden State and beyond believe he has vulnerabilities they could exploit in a national election.
Above all, they assert that Christies famously combative style could result in a loss of self-control during the heat of a presidential campaign.
Steve Elmendorf, who served as deputy campaign manager for then-Sen. John Kerrys 2004 presidential bid, said Christie has a conflict between appearing authentic and becoming unhinged.
People like the fact that he gets angry and yells at people sometimes. But they dont want their next president to be unhinged.
Christies combative tendencies were on display during the gubernatorial campaign, and his supporters point out that they did not do him much harm.
It was widely reported that the governor told a female public school teacher who criticized him at a campaign stop, Im tired of you people. A photo of Christie jabbing his finger at the teacher went viral on social media.
Christie denied using the words reported but did not dispute that it was a tense exchange. By his account, the woman asked him why he referred to public schools as failure factories, and he replied, Because they are. He also insisted, What I said was, Its never enough for you people. No matter how much money I give, its never enough for you people.(continued)

Tea Party responds:
Hillary can be beaten.
No Oppo research necessary.
Just tell the truth about her.
Of course he can be beaten. That’s why they want him...
Much as I hate to admit it, he’s the likely nominee in ‘16. Still, that’s a long way away...things could change.
If Conservtives/Tea Party can focus on ONE candidate to avoid splitting the early primary vote, we can defeat Crispy the Liberal.
Yet O’Reilly is right now pimping Krispy.
Yes, conservatives will probably just stay home.
So they’re already doing major opposition research on Krispy Kreme?
Romney was going to ask him for VP slot... He picked Ryan instead... I wonder WHY?????
Yes, they are, and Christie is under the impression that all he has to do is withstand their fat jokes.
He’s in for a huge comeuppance, I’m afraid, because the “unhinged” comment is just a sample of the treatment coming his way.
I guarantee it wasn’t just the weight. We’ve had big presidents before and so have other countries.
I’m a tad bit smaller than he is but a little older. I could go any day from a heart attack or stroke and so could he.
I’ll be here at home watching to see how that turns out for them.
I’ll stay home. I will not vote for Krispy or Jeb... or that scumbag Peter King (as if he has a 0.00001% chance)
I can’t imagine a scenario where I would vote for Christie either.
Of course, by the time the primaries get to WA state, the decision has already been made for me....at least re nominee.
I just don’t think I can stomach one more of these squishy R’s. It would so nice if we could have a real conservative get the nomination. I will be working for any real conservative who sets up an office here in WA.
So the goal here should be to identify a good candidate the Tea Party can support and get that person through the primaries.
Last time the wide field spread out support and allowed Mittens to sneak in to the nomination. If we let Christie get to the general election we’ve lost.
Bush wasn't squishy?
