Krugman: Those counting on Obamacare collapse are “making a very bad bet”
Salon ^ | November 20, 2013 | Elias Isquith, assistant editor

Writing at his New York Times blog, Paul Krugman warned that those banking on Obamacare to collapse are “probably making a very bad bet.”

As proof, Krugman points to the record of state-level healthcare exchanges, which by and large have been performing much better than their federal counterpart. He also cites the rising levels of Medicaid enrollment — which is occurring in both states that have and haven’t accepted the Obamacare expansion — and the slow improvement of Healthcare.gov as reasons for optimism. All in all, Krugman says, the law is “probably going to stumble through to the finish line.”

More from Krugman at the New York Times:

If all this is right, by the time open enrollment ends in March, millions of previously uninsured Americans will in fact have received coverage under the law, and reform will be irreversible. Obama personally may never recover his reputation; Democratic hopes of a wave election in 2014 are probably gone, although you never know. But anyone counting on Obamacare to collapse is probably making a very bad bet.

The whole scam is designed to collapse into NHS, administered by the corrupt US Gov’t. The horror stories from the UK and Canada are nothing compared to where we’ll be in 3yrs, after 0traitor finishes this part of the marxist agenda.

He's right. Voters will demand whatever it takes to keep 'free stuff' coming.

Despite the brave face Britons put on, the NHS is a nightmare. This is from the article you linked to. If this is what the British government is willing to admit, imagine what it must REALLY be like.

Mr Hunt set out a detailed breakdown of the problems identified at the individual trusts, but among the common themes listed were: • Patients being left on trolleys, unmonitored for excessive periods and then being talked down to by consultants • Poor maintenance in operating theatres, potentially putting patients in danger • Patients often being moved repeatedly between wards without being told why • Staff working for 12 days in a row without a break • Backlogs in complaints • A patient inappropriately exposed where there were both male and female patients present • Low levels of clinical cover - especially out of hours • Hospital boards being unaware of potential problems, including a spate of still births

This is what liberal voters and politicians want for us. Damn them all.

The only people signing up for it now, if they can get through the clunky website, are people are in the high risk population who are probably the only ones who would benefit from Obamacare. The people they need to fund the system, young and/or otherwise healthy people, are not signing up. This does not even take into consideration all the millions of people who are receiving insurance cancellations or those who will have to pay much higher premiums to make up for the influx of high risk people into the system. Many, many more losers than winners right now. I think that the system will become so unpopular, that politicians will be pressured to change it radically or scrap it completely.

NO government program or tax or agency or anything else EVER goes away.

Ubamacare is the death panel for the United States of America.

What exactly do you think "fundamental change" means?

If the people they need to pay for it do not sign up, they are in trouble. They depend on this mandate to force people to sign up. If people do not, this thing goes away.

Fundamental change can go both ways, unless you give up.

Appologize for being a defeatist. Obamacare will prevail if people like me who always hated it just roll over. I feel like the next couple months maybe the only chance we have to destroy it. I want the outrage to keep growing, as each layer is peeled.

Those betting on the collapse of American health-care are making a very good bet. 100% guaranteed.

That's the dirty little secret. Brits and Canadians are USED to mediocre, minimal quality care, that is delivered at a slow pace.

As in months for MRIs, hip replacements CABGs, etc.

They don't have the concept of what efficient, top-of the line care even is, so they are "secure" in their just enough-care, that even the lowliest Medicaid recipient in the US would NEVER tolerate.

In fact Medicaid patients are the MOST demanding patients.

What? I have to wait an HOUR for the doctor? I'm not seeing any PA or Nurse Practitioner, I want an MD!

I want a prescription written for Tylenol, so I get it for free!

(Actual conversations in my office).
