Pelosi Says Dems Focusing on 3 ‘R’s to Win Midterms: Recruiting, Raising Cash, Raising Issues

Pelosi told reporters today, stressing that they’re focusing on the three “R”s: “the recruiting of candidates, the raising of the resources, and of course, the raising of the issues that are part of the debate.”

“So we feel pretty confident about it and that confidence some, as I say, the caliber of the candidates that we have and the support that we have at the grass-roots level that has enabled us to attract, as I say, candidate, resources, volunteers and the rest,” she added.

After today’s caucus meeting, Pelosi called it “disappointing that the House Republicans are continuing their obsession with the Affordable Care Act in this new year” yet was open to House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) moving immigration reform in a piecemeal fashion as long as the goals of comprehensive immigration reform were eventually agreed to in conference. “And that’s why we have the three Bs — the Bible, the religious community; the badges, the law enforcement community; and B, the business community — supporting an effort for comprehensive immigration reform.” ......

Pelosi was asked if the political climate “stacked against moderates” could work against Democrats and put taking back the House out of reach.

“I certainly hope not, in terms of moderates on both sides of the aisle. We feel very confident. We think 2014′s going to be a great year, for these reasons. One is that the issues that I mentioned, whether it’s immigration, raising the minimum wage, background checks, all the rest of that are the priorities the American people want to see us act upon and so that’s what our debate will be about,” she replied.

The only way the Dems are going to win in 2014 is if the GOP implodes and does something stupid like pass immigration reform, which it looks like they are going to do because the GOPe has no desire for conservatives to be in the majority.

One thing about the dems for which I have grudging admiration. They set a goal and fight at all costs to reach it.. contrast to the dithering, self-defeating, squabbling Repubs. The estabs in the GOP would much rather trash and destroy the TEA Party than take the fight to the dems.

GOPe has no desire for conservatives to be in the majority.

Exactly. They have Bob Michel disease, i.e., they'd rather sit quietly and blissfully in the minority and not have to take responsibility for anything. Power and responsibility scare them.

Of course they need to recruit. They need to convince people to vote for them who have previously been non-political. Anyone that pays attention to politics knows that liberal democrats are a disaster in power. So they need new dupes.

They need cash to get their message out. Money talks. With enough of it they can buy time and repeat their lies. Repeated often enough, people start to believe them.

Sure they are going to raise issues, all kinds of issues. Anything they can evoke an emotional response on - that will all of a sudden become the most important issue. They'll be trying to distract from the many real and serious issues that they have completely screwed the pooch on.

It is a typical, even predictable strategy. On the other side, we just have to keep hammering them on the real issues, not let them set the stage for the debate.

Just say "The Government will fix [it] just like they fixed health care!"

“raising issues” - what a laugher.

Leftists avoid discussing issues based on their merits at all costs, because their position on issues either never works, or is simply illogical.
