Former GOP Chairman Michael Steele says there's an insurgence within the party to "turn the elephant" and recast the stereotypical perceptions of Republicans to appeal to a broader base of voters.

If he's actually onboard now, fine.
But, Republicans are EEEVULLL. Just ask the lame-stream media and the Democrats.
The Republicans in charge need to push the Tea Party Platform. That platform should appeal to ALL Americans. We are taxed too much and the government is too large...let’s do something to reduce both. That is the Tea Party platform.
If I’m not mistaken, there was a recent poll stating that 73% of people think the government is TOO BIG. Time for a Tea Party!
Damn the timeless principles and what has worked for the GOP. Basically, Steele is saying that the GOP isn’t “hip” enough and needs to be more like Democrats and stoop down to their level. Too upper-crusty white bread, eh? Well, I say Pschaw! (Twirls handlebar mustache and laughs maniacally while holding a cloth bag with the “$” symbol in front) All the GOP has to do is get back to true conservatism and shout it from the rooftops. Wins every time.
You mean become Dems?
Fed up was over 10 years ago.
Another limp wrist from the East Coast......Steele call that misleading for a name.
Why not CONSERVATIVISM instead of more
Statism, Polygamy, Illegals, Beastiality, and Felons??
Why not? Because this is the GOP = DNC.
Well after that shameful and idiotic display by Boehner on Leno’s show, fed up ain’t the word for it.
It was gawdaful.
Before anyone gets their hopes up, HE IS NOT TALKING ABOUT US. He's talking about gays. Mexicans. Greens. Minorities.
And the only way to appeal to them is to continue the drive to become the Uniparty.
Look in the mirror, steele...
Dude has been hanging on the back of the wagon for a decade slowing it down (because he’s so cool). Now he wants to jump in from.
The only kind of Republican candidate having any chance to be elected will be a straight man representing the largest demographic in the USA—a moral, pro-family man with a desire to increase manufacturing on US soil. That’s the case, regardless of who will run on the Democrat side. It will be even more the case, if bandwagons of harpy harridans threaten voters in a push for any less of a candidate.
And spending. Federal funding to local governments needs to be cut radically.
Cities, counties and states need to raise their own funds for their own budgets and same with the feds and borrowing
steele is the type RINO scum I’m running away from the republican party
Most Hispanic immigrants came here for freedom from corruption and business opportunities. They did not come to get a welfare check and to live in a ghetto provided by a centralized controlling government master.
Socialists/progressives have not killed America yet, but they are well on the way to killing individual freedom which makes business opportunity and land ownership next to impossible. We won’t have a middle class if they stay in power. We will have the very corrupt rich ruling over a land of dirt poor peasants with no way out.
Seems to me he (Steele) the ultimate middle-of-the-GROPe establishment - is now complaining that the tea Party and conservatives OUTSIDE the GROPe establishment must be resisted. That the GROPe must NOT become the image that the Tea Party is showing.
It would help to have articulate Republican leaders.
I would settle leaders with principle. What passes for leadership in the GOP is disgraceful; Boner, Cantor, McCarthy, Upton, McConnel, Cornyn, etc. The current GOP “leadership” roll is a list of spineless reprobates.
Agreed. Conservatives by themselves outnumber liberals as do moderates. There's no good reason to appeal to liberals whatsoever.
