Titanic Republican shift in key Senate race (Cornyn now at 43%, can't avoid a runoff election)

'Cruz missile' strategy propels Stockman toward runoff vs. Cornyn.

It is a monumental shift in major race that could be sending shock waves through the GOP establishment.

Underfunded and targeted by GOP strategist Karl Rove, Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas, has defied the odds in his long-shot bid to topple the second-most powerful Republican in the U.S. Senate, and he’s on the verge of forcing a crucial runoff with incumbent Sen. Jon Cornyn, R-Texas, in the Texas GOP primary.

According to the results of a stunning new poll, Cornyn has fallen from 50 percent to 43 percent.

That means Cornyn would have to gain eight points in the next two weeks to break the 50 percent threshold to avoid a runoff, but he seems to be losing ground, fast.

A runoff is critical because it can change the entire direction of a race.

That’s why forcing a runoff is the centerpiece of Stockman’s strategy, the same strategy that sent Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, to the Senate in 2012.

The goal is to force a runoff to buy time needed to rally the grassroots, raise funds and obtain key endorsements....

“Stockman also zeroed in on crucial factor revealed by the poll. While there are now only 15 points separating the two candidates, 29 percent of Texans are still undecided, giving the congressman ample opportunity to catch the senator.”

Will that 29% hold their noses and vote Cornyn? Who knows, but the incumbent is in trouble. Stockman’s campaign has been anemic, but to make up 29 points worth of deficit doing literally nothing is rather remarkable.

Haha. Good point. Cruz controls a good 25 House Republicans, and probably another 30 in the petrified forest by default. He is the most powerful senator.

“The congressman said all of his victories have been David versus Goliath races, noting that he beat the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Jack Brooks, D-Texas, in 1994 even though the incumbent outspent him by 12 to one.”

I would like to know Stockman’s secret. He has a knack for this kind of upset.

So does Mr. Obama, but we know his secret, don’t we?

“The congressman maintained it is one thing to face a Democrat as a clearly defined opponent, but quite another when you have a Republican who consistently works against other Republicans, saying that Cornyn worked against Sen. Marco Rubio in Florida, Senate candidate Joe Miller in Alaska and even against his fellow Texas senator, Cruz.”

I had no idea Cornyn has come the aid of rotten cheat MurCOWski. If that’s true, I now hate him even more.

Too bad it’s from WND, but I hope it’s true.

It's a flawed poll, courtesy of the Stockman campaign.

Evidently, there were three choices:

1. John Cornyn
2. Steve Stockman
3. Don't know

There are actually a half-dozen-or-so candidates running in the GOP Senate primary.

The results were: Cornyn (43%), Don't Know (29%), Stockman (28%). So Stockman himself was losing to "Don't know".

Cornyn's number, if it's reliable, is very encouraging. But the poll's provenance (and methodology) is disturbing.

“The congressman’s office said the PAC lists Karl Rove’s Warrenton, Va., address in TV station records for its ad purchases.”

What a freakin’ surprise! The long flabby arm of Tokyo Rove interfering in OUR damn primaries again! Did he commission these ads before or after he went to North Carolina to pimp Toll Road Tillis?

KARL ROVE, GO AWAY!!!!!!

It’s coming back to me.

I remember Cornball, as head of the NRSC, was very slow to help Miller in his race against murCowski. He had to be deluged with calls to even lift a finger to help Joe Miller, IIRC. It seems like he’d held out and/or considered possibly even helping murky? I can’t remember all of the details.

From the article:

Stockman told WND, “Rove got on stage and said, ‘John Cornyn is the second-most conservative senator,’ which begs the question, who is first? Who is the most conservative senator? Is it Mike Lee? Is it Rand Paul? Is it Ted Cruz?”

Answering his own question, the congressman continued, “No, in 2010 the National Journal ruled that John McCain was the most conservative member of the Senate. So it puts my opponent in an awkward position, because it means John Cornyn is more liberal than John McCain.”

Seems like a real opening for an opponent here. The poll was taken before the debt ceiling vote. Cornyn might be in a world of hurt.

But the party rules stated clearly that write-in campaigns were not an option, right? That if you lost your primary, you do the honorable thing and bow out. Why was MurCOWski never censured?

Here’s Stovall’s (actually engaging) commentary on illegal aliens and how he’d end the invasion:

He gives himself to complete psychoanalysis in this interview... I liked it.

Cornyn advised Lizard, upon realizing she’d lose the primary to TEA Joe Miller, to run Ind. and scoop up all the Alaskan RAT votes and sent 787s full of lawyers up there to make sure she was re-elected. They bussed thousands of eskimos to the polls with wristbands to show the election officials the name they wanted to vote for since they didn’t know who she was, much less how to spell her name in the write-in.

I have a question?
I have one of those Limbaugh “Operation Chaos” ballcaps and when I used to be naïve about Rove I was at a function and got Karl to autograph it and got my picture made with him. How much do you think I could sell it for on ebay to someone who would like to burn it?

Not sure. I’m pretty confident Christine O’Donnell would pay handsomely for it. Rove spent three weeks trashing her all over Fox and the radio, ensuring her loss.

If Cornyn gets below 50% he is done in the runoff.

Many on FR want to ignore her support of RINO's.

Don't forget she supported Hatch as well.
