The No. 2 Republican in the U.S. House is a goner.
And amid the ashes of House Majority Leader Eric Cantors shocking defeat Tuesday, comprehensive immigration reform smolders.
This is not to say that immigration reform would have passed if the Virginia Republican had not been the first House majority leader to lose since 1899. Immigration reform was already endangered.
But Cantors defeat to tea partier David Brat was so intertwined with immigration -- amnesty and illegal aliens that the few fence-sitters in the GOP-led House are going to flock back to the politically right side of the divide.
Regardless of what the polling says (and note that Cantor's pollster said he was winning big), Brats win and Cantors loss is now a powerful symbol, a rallying cry. That matters in politics.
Is it absolutely devastating? I dont know, said U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, a Miami Republican who for years has tried to get his party to tackle the issue.
Im sad. Im very, very sad. Eric is a close personal friend, Diaz-Balart said....

Everyone south of the Rio is a US citizen, as of next Tuesday.
Right after he pardons everyone with “one drop” of African blood from prison and jail?
Political cronyism is the downfall of America.
John Boehner can push it through in a lame duck session after the November elections.
There have been persistent reports that Boehner will not run for Speaker when the vote occurs in January next year.
That could mean he intends to do the dirty work the big money interests that support him want right before Christmas with “immigration reform”.
Boehner’s career as Speaker will end since any Republican voting for him as Speaker after that will be a pariah. Boehner will fall on his sword and leave the Speaker’s post, maybe even Congress with a resignation.
The next fake conservative from the GOPe in line will take over as his replacement.
Watch out for the tantrum in the WH. Vallerie will come out swinging.
Hope everyone’s prepared for the fallout - few things are more dangerous than a wounded dog.
Will they also fall for the DOPE from GOPE?
Best news in weeks.
Sandbagging from the media. This joker is there ‘til the end of the year.
Looks like Paul Ryan picked the wrong day to make the Drudge headline regarding his support for AMNESTY.
I ask these guys and their supporters, “So, you think you’ve got a sane 5 point Immigration Reform Plan?”
“What do you think your chance are of retaining your first 4 points in ANY negotiations while the Dems are still in power?”
Then I tell them to forget about it until “we” control the House, Senate, and White House.
* Close and seal the Southern US Border, all 2,000 + miles of it.
* Cancel NAFTA.
* Abolish all Federal, State and Local Welfare payments to non-citizens of the USA.
* Block all money transfers to Mexico, or other any Country South of our Southern Border.
* Have lunch.
* After lunch, pass and sign Federal Penalty law to anyone who hires an Illegal Alien Invader, with a fine of $1,000 per day per alien.
* String Concertina Wire Holding-Pen Stockades at 100 mile intervals for the gotta-ways.
* Be as hostile to Mexicans as the Mexicans have been to the US Marine held and tortured in Prison by the Mexican Guards for the last two months.
* Hire Greyhound Bus Company to transport Illegal Alien Invaders to Sheriff Joe Arpaios Chain Link Desert Spa near Phoenix, Arizona.
* Have supper.
Let’s hope so..those cockroaches deserve to have a one way ticket back to the crap hole where they came from
Obama will sign it sooner than later. He’ll use the Cantor defeat as politico speak to justify the EO. Congress will appropriate the $$$$$ for the chil’run.
Comprehensive, comprehensive. The term has only one meaning. In politician speak comprehensive means American taxpayers YOU ARE SCREWED.
I’m glad comprehensive boy Cantor was CRUSHED. And let that be the warning to all you other puke GOPe politicians. You can put “comprehensive” immigration reform. ... where the sun doesn’t shine you lying pukes.
We don’t need immigration reform and we really don’t need comprehensive immigration reform. Enforce the existing laws. That is your job.
never under estimate the power of a lame duck..
GOPe’s loss is America’s gain. Sadly.
On today’s Hugh Hewitt radio show he was astonished that Cantor lost. I listen to his show on the way back from work and it amazes me how clueless he and Michael Medved can be sometimes - most times really.
“than a wounded dog”
You mean serpent head?
so when do we get the trains to ship out the Mexicans- barring that we’re still screwed. I want my trains.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who caught Hewitt’s shock at seeing what real conservatives do- as opposed to the frauds and poseurs he cultivates as guests.
Hewitt first dropped his carpetbag in California about the time we were trying to pass Prop 187. And good RINO that he is he opposed us.
Hugh has a long history of promoting amnesty that goes back at least to 1994, although sometimes he lies about his record and tries to pass himself off as being concerned about the invasion of illegals. He’s not and never has been.
Like his pal Medved he uses his radio program to try to sell a liberal GOPe agenda to his listeners. Michael Medved appears to be reverting to his leftist roots more and more, and his flirtation with anything resembling conservatism was just an anomaly.
We shall see.....
AND the stroke of a pen. obama will now be on a tear.
Don’t know Hewitt, but Medved is an unabashed statist and smug elitist from Yale.
You know somebody else who feels a little nervous? Rubio, formerly a member of the Gang of Eight.
Sure. for this year, but then come 2015 they’ll be right back to the same stupidity.
Dont know Hewitt, but Medved is an unabashed statist and smug elitist from Yale.
Smug is right. He also likes Bill Clinton but does not like Hillary. I believe he and they has said they went to the same school at the same time.
