Ted Cruz Channels His Inner John Edwards
The Huffington Post ^ | March 10, 2015 | Sam Stein

Income inequality was a prominent theme among the many potential presidential candidates who addressed the International Association of Fire Fighters presidential forum on Tuesday. But no one else had a line quite like that from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).

“We’ve seen over the past number of years two Americas emerge. At the very top, top 1 percent today, with the largest federal government we’ve ever had, the top 1 percent earn a higher share of our income [than they have] since 1928,” said the Texas Republican.

Veterans of recent presidential campaigns probably did a spit take. "Two Americas" is a theme best associated with John Edwards, the former Democratic senator who rode the concept of have and have-nots to a vice presidential bid in 2004 and several third-place primary finishes in 2008. Edwards has, of course, been sullied by personal missteps and embarrassments since then. And it seemed that his signature campaign phrase would be buried along with his political career.

But lately, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has made it fashionable for lawmakers to talk bluntly about class divisions and income disparities. Clearly, Republicans are trying to get in on that act. Cruz's office said he had used the “two Americas” line before but not often....

If Jebbie and Scott are leading in the polls, why even bother to attack a "second-tier, unlikely" candidate like Ted Cruz? Are the internal polls showing things that the public polls (that we are allowed to see) aren't? Or what? The comments, of course, are a laff riot.

Lots of people read it, though, so we need to know what they’re up to.

A huge effort was made to define Cruz early and sideline him, problem is the guy just keeps perking along. He didn’t just go away like he was supposed to and all people have to do to figure this out is to hear what he has to say.

That’s the thing about Cruz too, as an orator he can give Edwards a run for his money without any of the associated baggage.

Unfortunately most people either don’t want to work at all, or are envious of the free stuff and big salaries of gummint employees. Few will take the time to realize the earning a lot of money as a gummint worker is different than earning a lot of money in the private sector.

I don’t see any problem with what he said. Actually, I doubt a conservative can win the Presidency WITHOUT placing the blame for “income inequality” on the leftist policies of an all powerful nanny government. It only serves to enrich those who have the inside connections to federal policy makers.

Cruz should be vetted. He has not been vetted like the rest of them. This is mandatory for all candidates if they want to run. Nobody gets special treatment. We are not having a coronation. Walker has been going through vetting for 4 years.....he is ready.

I wouldn’t take this attack to mean that Cruz has gained mainstream credibility. But it is an attack to paint him as an extremist. This will be his major challenge in this campaign regardless of how we view him here. The big question is not how he plays in Texas but can he generalize that conservative appeal to the rest of the country.

But why bother? No one is really attacking Rick Santorum, Mike Huckabee, Rick Perry, Mike Pence or even Jeb Bush.

Your assumption seems to be that it is because Cruz is so formidable. Do you have any data, apart from your own biases, that this is the case?

Read my post #1 again. I have no more access to the two party’s internal polling than you do. But their constant attacks on Ted Cruz, versus their relative silence with Sweater Vest, Huckleberry, Smart Glasses, HP Girl and the rest seems to support my thesis, nicht wahr?

So, the answer is “no”. Your post reflects your personal bias only. I respect that, in fact I admire that. Our differences having nothing to do with where we want the country to go, just with how we get there.

“Edwards ... Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.)”

Au contraire, HuffPo. Cruz is not channeling these nitwits.

Edwards and Fauxcahontas, like all good little Marxists, want to level everyone by Stalinist tactics.

Cruz is calling out the Kenyan Fraud and his billionaire/millionaire buddies who have fed at the federal trough by means of federal government cronyism. It’s what the stimulus and other bloated government programs were designed for—picking winners and losers. The Fraud’s buddies have made out really well.

Cruz wants to do away with all that—even down to ethanol subsidies and other vote getting crony, taxpayer funded giveaways—by getting the Dist. of Corruption out of the market, lowering taxes, and cutting red tape. This is just the opposite of what the leftists want. They want the government, not the market place, to dole out the goodies. Cruz couldn’t disagree more.
