they are actually associated with the candidate.

And .. aside from close personal friends, remember Cruz used to be the boss of about 700 lawyers when he was Solicitor General of TX.
I suspect a lot of those lawyers are some of his primary supporters. Hmmmmm ..?? New DOJ people ..??
That is the bigger picture, bottom line.
You’re probably right .. the dollar amount I heard was after the first few days of his announcement.
