Hillary Couldn't Afford To Wait
The Daily Beast ^ | April 11, 2015 | David Freedlander

Posted on 04/12/2015 2:55:07 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Hillary launches her campaign on Sunday – and, some Dems say, it’s about damn time.

At long last, the campaign has a candidate.

After playing one of the more tedious games of cat and mouse in recent American political history, Hillary Clinton stands now ready to admit that she is what she has been for the last two years: an actual contender for the Democratic nomination for president.

The announcement comes as Democrats in DC have fretted that without an organized infrastructure Clinton has been a glutton for Republican attacks, and ill-equipped to respond to the news of the moment, whether it be about her burgeoning private email scandal or the latest Clinton Foundation fundraising fiasco.

This concern has been echoed among the grassroots in the early primary states, where the usual care and feeding of caucus-goers and town hall attendees has not happened.

The time has come, top Democrats say, for Hillary Clinton to begin to take control of her own story.

“Right now everyone is just holding their breath in,” said Walt Pregler, the chairman of the Dubuque County Democratic Party. “We are being bombarded by Republicans. I couldn’t give a rat’s butt what they have to say.”

Hillary, he added, “has to get out there. That’s my feeling. There are a lot of people working here for Elizabeth Warren, although the way it looks right now Hillary is still number one. She carries a sword and she isn’t afraid to swing it”

That sword has remained in its scabbard and – aside from a tweet here and there from her Twitter account - Republicans have filled the void, calling Clinton a liar and a creature of all that is wrong about Washington, D.C.

“There’s a lot of stuff there that is, I think, going to shake the confidence of Americans in her ability to lead in an honest fashion,” Rand Paul told Politico after his own campaign kickoff earlier in the week. “She’s saying: ‘Well, you need to trust me even though I broke the rules, and maybe the law to begin with.’”

Those attacks appear to be starting to leave a mark.

For most of the last two years, Clinton has held commanding polling leads, beating Republican contenders in some of the deepest red states, and occasionally even beating them in their home states. On Thursday, Quinnipiac released a series of polls that showed Clinton trailing or up only slightly in the key swing states of Colorado, Iowa and Virginia. And it wasn’t just to top tier contenders like Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio that Clinton suddenly found herself looking up at—it was practically everyone, including longshots like Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz.

“The campaign really already has begun,” said Jim Hodges, a former Democratic governor of South Carolina. “All you need to do is witness the press coverage over the last six months. Despite their best efforts, their ability to stay above the fray proved to be pretty limited. It was simply impossible to stay out any longer.”

People in and close to the Clinton operation insist that the timing of the announcement had little to do with any of these factors. Clinton will be inheriting a political operation as ready to make her the nominee any candidate in history. Outside groups have been raising tens of millions of dollars on Clinton’s behalf, and the grassroots outfit Ready for Hillary has signed up four million supporters.

Rather, they say, the campaign was ready to launch when the campaign was ready to launch: when the website was completed, when the staff hires were all made and the rollout planned down to the smallest detail.

By late Friday, the official response from the Clinton headquarters was that there was still no official campaign, even as dozens of staffers had been hired and The New York Times spotted people working in her new Brooklyn campaign office.

Last month, Clinton made what would turn out to be her final appearance as a non-candidate. It was in Brooklyn, miles from where her new headquarters would be. She appeared at a children’s center to promote childhood literacy, and despite the insistence of her aides that she would not take questions, one intrepid journalist asked when she would return to the borough to open her campaign headquarters.

“All in good time, all in good time,” Clinton responded with a smile before hustling out of the room.

The good times are apparently here.

They keep repeating that canard about Marco Rubio being a "top-tier" contender but that Ted Cruz, like Mike Huckabee, is a long-shot. Based on what, exactly?

I don’t think Hillary has a chance against anyone, really, and I suspect we’ll see her leave the field for some totally made up reason.

The other possibility, though, is that she is running mainly to protect herself against intensive questioning by the various panels about her underhanded activities, because as long as she’s a candidate, she’ll always be able to claim that they’re politically motivated.

Despite the reasons given or posed in the article, the MAIN reason she HAS to officially declare is to officially shroud any investigation into her SoS email server activities under the mantel of Dirty Campaign Tricks by her opposition.

Barring any official investigation that offers the traditional “I cannot, will not comment on an ongoing investigation,” this option of reverse blaming is the best alternative. Her ‘team’ has been huddled together for weeks, months now and this is the clear message - she has to declare so she can defer until it blows over.

I think there’s a very good chance she couldn’t win, too. But I think the only way she is going to leave a campaign and quit now is if she’s dragged out kicking and screaming after losing another nomination or carried out at room temperature.

To her, the destination she seeks is Gollum’s “My Precious”.

The campaign was ready to launch with the website in place, then the scrubbing of the server, hence the delay?

Had to put a totally new server in place. These things take time.

Fear is a powerful motivator. Like, don’t look over your shoulder, somebody may be gaining on you. For Herself, Madame Benghazi, the Cold & Joyless, several somebodies may be gaining or even surpassing the current standing.

Herself, like FDR in 1944, is very ill and may be soon to be so incapacitated as to be unable to serve in the office, but the ego has taken over most of the functions of rational thought. The last hurrah is beckoning, and this last call has the ring of “Now or Never”. Personally, I prefer “Never” to be the judgment of history.

So long as the Republicans run against Herself, and not each other, all shall continue to prosper in their quest to replace the most useless and dangerous occupant of the Oval Orifice since Jimmy Carter took it upon himself to “reform” America.

Crush Herself first and foremost. This is not “hitting the girl”, as the creature known as Herself is no more of a feminine being than a mythical dragon guarding its eggs. Nobody wants those eggs to hatch.

In 1979, Reagan formally declared his candidacy in November. Now April is “about damn time”.

She will enter the race full of hope and change-—she needed to do a Ted Cruz—give a great speach and show why we should vote for her—and its not because she’s a woman. I think America is done with experiments. She needs to tell the people why she would be better than Obama and not just his 3rd Term. How would a Hillary Presidenal rule be better than all the junk Obama does? What wil be different? If she doesn’t do this she is toast. She may well be done in any case—but—if she wants to run—she should give it her best shot!

I agree.

Liberalism as an ideology is severely wounded by Barack Obama having foisted it upon the country. The Democratic Party has destroyed itself with Obamacare.

Her plan is to present a "blank slate" on the issues, as Obama did. This will not be acceptable to the American people, this time.

Conservatives will turn out to vote against her in historic fashion. Lesson learned. Many apoliticals, "mushy middle", if you will, will stay home, unlike 2012 when Obama was on the ballot, IMHO.

Oh, and she's up to her neck in scandals. The scandals will matter.

Oh..... what I would give for you to be right about this. But, first of all, she is NOT going to go away. She has wanted this her entire life. Secondly, in 2008, people told me the same thing about this guy from Illinois named Obama; he doesn't have chance. 47 percent of America would vote DemocRAT if Pee Wee Herman was the Dem candidate.

She’s definitely been looking for “My Precious” all her life - that was what was behind the famous “co-presidency,” where she was going to be as important as Bill, the actual elected president.

But for some time now, I have had the feeling that her heart (if she has one) really isn’t in it and she’s being pushed, possibly by her husband - so now the tables are turned. Bill hates Obama and sees his wife’s possible presidency as his third term.

Or maybe she’s being pushed by other old-line Dems who want to take back their brand.

Liberalism as an ideology is severely wounded by Barack Obama having foisted it upon the country.

That's true, and Obama has gone way beyond liberalism. The fact that he invokes the past by referring to leftist radicalism as liberalism is the only thing that has enabled him to get it through, because liberals are such fools that all you have to do is mention one of their favorite causes and they're in.

Hillary and Bill represent the old-line extreme liberalism, but now they see it as possibly having been empowered by Obama's radical destruction of our institutions and laws, so they want to get back in charge.

That said, Hillary's dreary and weak performance as SOS, where Obama sidelined her and did everything but laugh at her openly, her scandals and the possibility that they will revive some of her husband's old scandals, and the fact that she just looks horrible (old, uncertain) I think would pretty much eliminate her.

But I do think that you're right, if she runs, even moderately conservative folk will turn out to vote against her because of her track record. The Dems will realize this at some point, and then she'll be history.

I still think Obama wouldn’t have won either time had it not been for massive fraud in the Northern Midwest. It would have been close, because we had lame candidates both times around, but I don’t think he would have won.

To me, that’s going to be the thing we’ve got to watch out for this time. Also, getting a decent, fraud-proof GOP candidate would help!
