Smoke has cleared on the first Republican presidential debate, which was followed by another round of controversy involving Donald Trump, and it appears the billionaires support is holding.
At 23 percent, he still leads the GOP field, according to a poll by NBC News and Survey Monkey.
The poll is consistent with unscientific surveys and a poll by Gravis Marketing that show a plurality of GOP watchers gave the debate to The Donald. (A plurality also thought Trump lost the debate.)
A clear division within the GOP post-debate has emerged that in some way perfectly mirrors where the party is today.
The establishment and Beltway punditry thought Trump did terrible, and gave the win to Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. Many also liked Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
To the base, Trump held his own and Sen. Ted Cruz and Dr. Ben Carson made big strides.
The only thing the two sides agree on: Tech exec Carly Fiorina won the kids' table debate going away and took a giant step into the top tier of candidates.
Debate losers: Former Gov. Jeb Bush, who created no heat and who probably has the establishment very worried right now; Gov. Scott Walker, ditto; Sen. Rand Paul, who came out the loser in a dust-up with Trump and who had the shortest amount of talk time; Gov. Chris Christie, who seemed to disappear; Kasich, who stirred up the home crowd and punditry but apparently no one else; and everyone else besides Fiorina at the first debate -- they have all vanished.
What all of these polls are showing is that we the people, do not want Jeb Bush. No matter how hard they try to shove him down our throats - we don’t want him. How pig headed can they be?
The (GOP elite) are under the delusion that they are smarter than the base, the working stiffs, and Tea Party types.
Voters!?! Ha! What do they know about running a country?
I thought the plan was to foist Kasich on us in the hope of fooling the evangelicals again.
About as likely as the Jon Huntsmann ploy.
They have different interests and different points of view.
Pretty sure there are some Tea Party types who think they're smarter than GOPe types.
Also, working stiffs may vote differently depend on where they live.
You and your damned logic and clear thinking.
No surprise Rubio is a Rino and a fraud,a Bush lackey
