Faced with the likelihood of an embarrassing exclusion from a CNN debate Tuesday, Sen. Rand Paul hinted he might drop out of the presidential race within days.

"We will make an announcement, on that, on Tuesday," Paul, a Kentucky Republican, said when asked if he will continue his campaign if low polling numbers relegate him to the second tier debate Tuesday, the Boston Globe reported....

Probably good news, in that his people are unlikely to flock to Bush, Rubio, or Christie.

Why not? He’ll probably run every four years for the rest of his life.

‘Bout time Rand rented a clue. His campaign sputtered and died in the first few weeks of the primary.

Like all the rest who’re under 5%, his presence in the race is nothing more than a propped up corpse, taking up precious space.

Bury it, already.

He should stay in.

Cruz might crash soon and his followers will be up for grabs.

Members of Paul's campaign staff on Saturday night denied his remark referred to dropping out. Paul meant only that he would make an announcement Tuesday about his possible exclusion from the main debate, his campaign said.

Not much surprise. They'll deny until they can't any more. That's their job.

I have a feeling Trump won’t let Cruz sink into the mud of nothingness if he can let support. Even by criticizing Cruz, Trump is helping him out by keeping that name in the news cycles as a viable and continuing threat to Hillary.

I think both men are playing a little Good Cop, Bad Cop repartee by agreement. It’s almost like Big Time Wrestling, where the script is discussed and choreographed. I’m not bothered by this theater. They strive for the same things I want for America. For a while, Dr. Carson and Trump seemed to be in perfect synch, but then the good Doctor began making a series of ridiculous statements and confusing conjectures.

Sarcasm or wishful thinking?

More than likely they will, being (fairly young) I have known many Ron/Rand Paul Libertarian type Conservatives/Republicans..whatever.

Anyway, they’re usually they type to do one of two things: 1) Gravitate toward their second choice out of strategy (who is probably fairly libertarian/small government minded) or 2) Drop out because their libertarian choice (usually one of the Pauls are gone) and the next best isn’t “pure” libertarian enough.

So I think most of his support would naturally go to Cruz. They’re also thinkers usually focused on issued, not cults of personality, except for Ron Paul (and Rand to a degree).

That was my thought also. Rand Paul has his quirks, but he would be a decent president. His campaign is going nowhere though, so I'd rather see his supporters go to a true conservative who has a chance. In contrast, I keep hoping Bush, Rubio, and Christie will all stay in the race.

Most Cruzers would cruise on over to Trump. And really, how far would a minority of Cruz backers get you anyway?

But beyond that, why might Cruz crash soon? He’s got lots of money and is very disciplined.

After 4 debates, it should be obvious that only the top tier and only about 5 or them are even viable and should be allowed to participate in the remaining debates.

Had to chuckle last week when Kasich was on one of the news programs. Mod/host pointed out that his numbers were low. He responded that ‘that was because people didn’t know who is.’ After 4 debates and they still don’t know you, John? That should tell you it is time for you to get back to governing Ohio.

Most of the lower tier can only make the news programs when they criticize Trump. None of them have enough substance to stand on their own.

Kasich’s numbers are low not because people don’t know him, it’s because they do.
