SEATTLE — Socialist Seattle city council member Kshama Sawant is calling for a wave of protests and strikes on May Day this year against President Donald Trump and his policies.
Sawant penned an article in the socialist publication Jacobin Magazine titled Why We Should Strike on May Day.
“Since Inauguration Day, millions of people have taken to the streets to fight against Donald Trump’s right-wing agenda. Yet the president is continuing his attacks,” she wrote.
Sawant called for rank-and-file union members and labor leaders to bring forth resolutions to strike on May 1. She also called for “mass peaceful civil disobedience that shuts down highways, airports, and other key infrastructure.”
In the article, Sawant said it “will not be enough to play defense.” She referenced Trump’s travel ban saying the “‘chaos’ we created at the nation’s airports gives a hint of what’s possible.”
“We will not defeat Trump in one day alone. But a nationwide strike on May Day would, without a doubt, represent an enormous step forward for our movement.
Let’s seize the time and make this May Day a turning point in the struggle to bring down this dangerous administration and put forward the type of politics than can challenge the rule of the billionaire class.”
May Day in Seattle is historically a day of peaceful protests during the day followed by violent protests at night.
It’s as if Democrats want Trump to take 45 states in 2020.
Their cause is “Death to America!”
Yawn.
It is the same everytime a Republican is in the White House.
Communism has to be down to its last one or two cat lives.

All she does is stir the pot. When does she work for her local constituents? But then, that is what most Socialists are known for; distorting, destroying and disabling any functioning structure, because they can. Similar to Anarchists.
I guess Ms. Sawant is not into US Hisory. We don’t do crap like this on May Day. The last time that date meant anything was the Haymarket incident that spurred the Socialists/Communists to piggy back off the spring festival celebrated in Europe.

Socialists love symbolism. May Day is Commie Day, and they always turn out, they even did when Obama was in office.
I suggest a National Geographic-style anthropological documentary on the ancient, elaborate socialist folk rituals surrounding May Day. The airing of grievances, the feats of strength, the Proto-Festivus Pole bedecked with ribbons.
Because people who are not commies protest things on May day...
I wonder how that $15 minimum wage is doing in Seattle?
Last I heard, most of the lunch places in the city had closed, and Kshama Sawant was saying “maybe so, but it has nothing to do with the minimum wage.”
This should all be good news for Starbucks, she is their candidate. Probably a lot of people will be affected, and they will cut off their nose to spite their face. So....every choice does bear a consequence.
