A new fear swept through the Capitol on Tuesday afternoon as Brett Kavanaughs Supreme Court nomination sat in a holding pattern ahead of Thursdays hearing: The fear of weekend work.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, according to several senators, told Republicans at a Tuesday luncheon to prepare to work through the weekend to process Kavanaughs confirmation. They want to wrap it up as soon as possible for several reasons: Because theyre already irritated that its taken this long, they want Kavanaugh on the bench as close as possible to the start of the new SCOTUS term on Monday, and they dont want any new allegations to surface or wrong turns to be taken while the nomination hangs in the wind.
Heres how the process will work.
The hearing with Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford will be held Thursday at 10 a.m., and the committee could vote on the nomination at any point afterwards. As much as Republicans leaders might prefer, say, a Thursday afternoon vote to happen, the presence of undecided Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake on the committeewhere the Republicans outnumber Democrats by one votemight necessitate some time to digest the hearing before the vote could be taken. Common sense and the optics of rushing would also necessitate some time to digest the hearing.
Lets consider a scenario, then, where the committee approves Kavanaughs nomination on Friday. The soonest that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell could introduce the nomination in the full chamber, by filing a cloture petition, is on Saturday, and the Senate could vote to end a filibuster two days later, on Monday....

Thank you Harry Reid!
Never thought Id say that.
Sounds good to me.
Always a self manufactured last minute crisis of drama with the DC critters.
Good! Maybe the lib/commies did overplay their hand.
Give them a taste of their own medicine!
Corker, Flake, Murkowsky and Collins are still a problem.
Excellent!
just something to think about..
it’s important to consider the potential bias or perspective of the source of the article for a thread.
for example in this thread the source is SLATE — definitely not a conservative media outlet.
They are all worried about getting home to campaign for real election. Fun to watch them squirm
And if Kav ISN’T voted out by the Committee...
Then a motion to discharge must be nade. It has to ‘lay over’ until the next Executive Session.
So that’s two more days the Dems can kill.
After watching Laura Ingraham tonight, I have decided that Democrats depend on the stupidity of their minions. It is sad, really. Lauras guest, who spent her own money to come to DC to protest, just kept saying I really just want an FBI investigation, despite having been told more than once the FBI doesnt do those types of investigations. The woman has been brainwashed with talking points. Thats all she could say, and shes even paying for her own hotel room, too. It IS sad.
Not really unless Kav says something stupid which he won’t
Yep. Be nice to keep them in town until late October as several are in tight races.
But better to get Kavanaugh confirmed and move on.
AS WELL THEY SHOULD!
Don’t blame McConnell...he warned them...
and OH, by the way, I want to see the room cleared if the disrupters start in with their shouting.
No they're not. McConnell has got this locked down. When it comes to judges, the Turtle isn't taking any prisoners. They're going to piss and moan for their donors and for the liberal media, but in the end, they're going to vote to confirm Kavanaugh.
Force the libs to actually filibuster, hour after hour!
See just how long Sen. DiFis depends hold out!
i think it’s a total fake that Flake will flake ...
I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture will be done by the Democrats
“Corker, Flake, Murkowsky and Collins are still a problem.”
false. Corker has said he’s gonna vote for Kavanaugh ... both Flake and Collins have pretty much indicated they’re gonna vote for Kavanaugh assuming Ford’s testimony is the same nothing-burger as the stuff she’s already said ... Murkowsky is whining about a nonsensical FBI investigation, but it’s just whining: she’ll vote YES ... McConnell said just today that they’ve got the votes ... judicial committee vote scheduled for Friday and full Senate vote likely on Monday or Tuesday ... Pubs won’t hold a vote in the full Senate they know they’ll lose ...
