On the morning after Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected governor, the lawmaker who pushed through a controversial state law to allow illegal immigrants to drive telephoned a legislator who opposed the measure.

"We need to start working together," Sen. Gil Cedillo, D-Los Angeles, told Assemblyman Robert Pacheco, R-Walnut.

"If he wants to come up with a mandate to just reverse (it), I don't think that's the way you bring people together," said Assemblyman Fabián Nuñez, D-Los Angeles, a leading contender to become the next speaker.

But passing SB60 brought people together on the issue? More dumb logic.

Folks when all these liberal newspapers mention Prop. 187, they never say it passed with 59% of the votes. They always talk like anyone being for the proposition is committing political suicide. The opposite is true. I believe the same election that Prop. 187 was on the ballot is the year Pete Wilson was reelected Governor. I know he was for Prop. 187 because he knew that illegals were strangling. CA. They still are, only it is far worse.

"It may all be moot because, independent of this, opponents are gathering signatures to repeal this at the ballot (in March)," said Romero, who voted for the bill. "And if it gets on the ballot, they will win."

Let's get those petitions signed!

This whole article is a blatant attempt to blur the difference between legal immigrants and illegal aliens.

Why doesn't someone propose that the DL have a great big transparency across it reading "non-citizen license" ?

That way everyone knows that the license gives them the right to drive, but not citizenship.

So, they admit they are acting against the people's wishes?

And when all the newspapers mention giving drivers licenses to illegal aliens in California, they never mention that at least ten other states already do this. Why does everyone act like California is the first place to do this? And why was there no huge outcry over the other states issuing drivers licenses to people who are here illegallly? I don't get it.

That way everyone knows that the license gives them the right to drive in a southerly direction only.
