Husband protests video showing alert Terri
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | Wednesday, October, 15, 2003

Posted on 10/14/2003 11:05:16 PM PDT by JohnHuang2

As Terri Schindler-Schiavo faces forced removal today of the feeding tube that sustains her life, lawyers for her husband are ordering her parents to hand over a videotape distributed yesterday as evidence she is not in a "persistent vegetative state."

Terri's father, Robert Schindler, admitted the tape was made surreptitiously, in violation of a court order by Pinellas-Pasco County, Fla., Circuit Judge George Greer.

The video, which shows Terri laughing and trying to speak, also indicates attempts at rehabilitative therapy, also banned by the court.

But Schindler says he is willing to risk jail because of his conviction that anyone who watches the tape will realize his daughter is not in the comatose condition her husband Michael Schiavo and his attorneys portray.

"I went in with the camera because I expected Terri to be dying very shortly, and I wanted to bring the truth out," Schindler told reporters yesterday. "What happens, happens."

Michael Schiavo's attorney Deborah Bushnell immediately responded to announcement of the videotape's release, warning that if it is distributed, the Schindler family "will not be allowed to visit Terri unless [Schiavo] or his representative is present."

Bushnell, in a fax to the Schindler's attorney, Patricia Anderson, also warned Schiavo "may seek other remedies from the court, as appropriate."

Gary McCullough, a media consultant who helped distribute the tape, said copies were given to about 10 media outlets. The Schindlers hope Gov. Jeb Bush will take notice and intervene on Terri's behalf.

Yesterday, Bush's spokesman said the governor, who had sent a letter to Judge Greer and filed a friend-of-the-court brief, can do nothing more to save Terri's life, insisting the outcome is in the hands of the court.

Schindler distributed the video at a press conference yesterday in which he revealed Terri tried to convey to him she did not want to die, by bolting upright and trying to get out of her chair when told she might be killed.

As WorldNetDaily reported, Robert and Mary Schindler have been locked in a decade-long legal struggle with their son-in-law over the care and custody of their daughter, who suffered massive brain damage when she collapsed at her home 13 years ago under unexplained circumstances at the age of 26.

Five years ago, Schiavo petitioned the court for permission to remove his wife's feeding tube, claiming she is in a "persistent vegetative state" and had told him years ago she would not want to be kept alive "by tubes" and "artificial" means. Although Terri breathes on her own and maintains her own blood pressure, she requires a simple tube into her abdomen to her stomach for nourishment and hydration.

Judge Greer has ordered the tube removed at 2 p.m. today. Doctors believe if Terry is not fed by other means, she we die in about two weeks.

Another videotape of Terri was introduced at the initial trial in January 2000. It was shown on television news, and three doctors who saw it contacted Robert Schindler saying that they did not believe his daughter was in a persistent vegetative state, but that they wanted to examine her to be sure.

After examining Terri, all three physicians said they believed she had the ability to swallow because she was not drooling. Affidavits were sent to Greer requesting him to allow a swallowing test, which he summarily denied.

At the time, Michael Schiavo was furious about the video and doctor visit. In response to his demands, Greer issued an order banning further videotaping and any still photography, and a list of "approved" visitors was drawn up.

Meanwhile, a round-the-clock prayer vigil and protest that began Monday continues outside the Woodside Hospice in Pinellas Park, Fla., where Terri resides.

Renowned author, artist and disability advocate Joni Eareckson Tada has joined Operation Rescue founder Randall Terry in an effort to draw attention to Terri's plight.

Legal documents and information on Terri's case are posted on the family's website.

What a nightmare all around. We really can't be get the rest of the story on this one. It seems rather bizarre for a judge to take the word of someone who will benefit financially, that Terri expressed a wish to not be kept alive under these circumstances, even if it is the husband.

I was saddened and disgusted to find out that there wereonly about a dozen or so people at the vigil. There should be at least a couple of thousand and they should be preventing the vermin Schiavo and his demonic minions from entering this obscene house of death. Is there nothing that will move people to righteous action? Can we not even manage this totally justified act of civil disobedience?

The judge is a slick willie appointee.

Why can't the animal cruelty laws be applied in this case? Originally they were used to begin what are today's child abuse laws. Where is PETA? Where are the compassionate liberals like BS? Where are the anti-death penalty crew?

We don't even put down sick animals, much less convicted killers in so INHUMAN a way.

On a radio talk show yesterday, the host stated that
Terri's "husband" was living with another woman at the
present time and had sired a child with her. I assume
this show would not have stated this without basis.
Anyone else know any more about this aspect of the
case?

If Jeb Bush had any ballz

He would intervene on the behalf of life...

The left will scream about the "rule of law" etc etc etc..they always do when it suits their purpose..The left cares nought for the rule of law or any other kind of rule except their own

Perhaps the Repubbies are thinking that if Terri is killed by a leftie activist thug that in the next election many voters will be so disgusted with the left- they will vote Republican?

I dont know for a fact what Gov Bush is thinkng.. but I do know how mercenary politicians can be...

but to sacrifice an innocent women for any political concerns is a sign of weak leadership imo

Bush needs to step in...it is after all HIS state he is the highest offical...

He ought to be the kind of leader who says that right is right and wrong is wrong...and do the right thing regardless of the consequences to his carreer...

In fact if the people of Florida would rather have a governor that would allow such a travesty of justice to occur on his watch..and would punish him at the ballot box for doing the right thing...

Then that governor should tell the people of Florida to take the job and shove it...

But then when one is thinking more about one's long term political concerns or the political concerns of one's family instead of doing the right thing...

Perhaps one should consider another carreer...I hope Gov Bush

Steps Up To The Plate - Before It's Too Late

IMO

Kidnapping is a crime.

Isn't kidnapping a federal crime? If things are as they have been presented here, then one of the key problems in this case is Florida's kangaroo court system.

I watched the attorney Felos on The Morning Show this AM. He sickened me. He stated that twenty judges had ruled that Terri is in a PVS. He also stated that research has shown that her death will be painless. He is a lying scumbag. Someone HAS to do something...It is so frustrating to feel so helpless and to see these evil people do this to an innocent woman under the protection of the courts.

It seems rather bizarre for a judge to take the word of someone who will benefit financially, that Terri expressed a wish to not be kept alive under these circumstances

I don't know whether it's true anymore that Schiavo will benefit financially from Terri's death. I do believe that was part of his initial motivation to have her killed, though.

In any case, it's probably Schiavo's lawyer who stands to benefit most.

That said, there's still a major motivation for Schiavo to want Terri dead: SAVING FACE.

This creep thinks that with Terri gone, no one will ever again have the chance to prove that Terri could be rehabilitated.

Prayers going out for Terri and her loving parents.

Michael Schiavo's attorney Deborah Bushnell immediately responded to announcement of the videotape's release, warning that if it is distributed, the Schindler family "will not be allowed to visit Terri unless [Schiavo] or his representative is present."

Release the tape! Let JEB and the world know the truth. I've tried staying out of this discussion because I wasn't told by Terri herself what she wants nor have I been an eye witness to her physical state. However with that warning, it's very suspicious the husband is lying. If the parents don't release it then there's nothing to see or the parents aren't doing all they can for their daughter.

The article is a little hard to follow, but my understanding is that the tape HAS been released:

Gary McCullough, a media consultant who helped distribute the tape, said copies were given to about 10 media outlets... Schindler distributed the video at a press conference yesterday...

"Felos on The Morning Show this AM. He sickened me. He stated that twenty judges had ruled that Terri is in a PVS. He also stated that research has shown that her death will be painless."

How in blazes can there be research that shows death by starvation/dehydration is painless? Felos stuck his foot in his mouth, IMHO, as he said nothing about Terri not being able to feel pain.

This court has acted in the most inhumane manner not only toward Terri, but toward her parents. Withholding contact if the parents don't tow the line desired by Schiavo, Felos and Greer. Heaven forbid the public be shown videos of Terri interacting with her surroundings. Why, people might just catch on to what they are really doing, murdering the most helpless of us.

I sincerely hope they are tortured by their subconcious guilt for the rest of their lives.
