WASHINGTON (AP) -- Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff are defending a new deputy undersecretary of defense "who has reportedly cast the war on terror" in religious terms.
Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin, whose promotion and appointment was confirmed by the Senate in June, has said publicly that he sees the war on terrorism as a clash between Judeo-Christian values and Satan, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 16 /U.S. Newswire/ -- A prominent national Islamic civil rights and advocacy group today called for the reassignment of a top U.S. general who says he is in "the army of God" and claims Muslims worship an "idol."
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is responding to investigative reports by the Los Angeles Times and NBC News that paint Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin as an "intolerant extremist...who believes that Islam is an idolatrous, sacrilegious religion against which we are waging a holy war." In a discussion of his efforts to capture a Muslim Somali warlord, Boykin said, "I knew my God was bigger than his. I knew that my God was a real God and his was an idol."
Speaking in uniform before a Christian group in June, Boykin claimed "radical Islamists" hate America "because we're a Christian nation, because our foundation and our roots are Judeo-Christian...and the enemy is a guy named Satan." Our "spiritual enemy," Boykin said, "will only be defeated if we come against them in the name of Jesus."
Boykin, the new deputy undersecretary of defense for intelligence, is assigned to track down Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein and other high-profile targets in the Muslim world.

"Putting a man with such extremist views in a critical policy-making position sends entirely the wrong message to a Muslim world that is already skeptical about America's motives and intentions," said CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad.

Appearing in dress uniform before a religious group in Oregon in June, Boykin said Islamic extremists hate the United States "because we're a Christian nation, because our foundation and our roots are Judeo-Christians. ... And the enemy is a guy named Satan."

He did NOT say Muslims worship an idol. He said the warlord he was fighting WORSHIPED an idol. The problem with the pc police these days is they make a headline that is erroneous, it get repeated, then accepted as fact.
If Bin Laden and Saddam's god thinks it's okay to fly airplanes into buildings and feed people through shredders I, too, believe they're worshiping idols.
To: Tempest
hehe ... I'm sure they don't understand that what the General is saying is true ... though it ought to be plain after September 11 and the Intifada against Israel ... the Bali bombing, the Marine barracks bombing, the attacks in Morocco, in the Sudan, in Burkina Faso, in Algeria, in Togo, and Ethiopia, and Angola, in Afghanistan, in Lebanon, in Syria, and on and on and on and on, ad infinitum ...

In my view, if anyone thinks this 'war on terror' is anything but a religious war, they're deluding themselves. Of course, it's not PC of anyone who's not Muslim to say that, but the Muslims (especially the statement from Indonesia today) can call for murder of Jews and the infidels with impunity. They want to kill us while we must of course, try to 'understand' them. I'm sure Dr. Phil and Colin Powell, working in tandem, will achieve this in no time.
To: dennisw
Ol' Ibrahim shouldn't be upset. The general specifically said that the enemy is a guy named Satan, not a guy named Muhammed or a guy named Allah. What's their problem (apart from chronic whining)?

unfortunately true, but true nonetheless ... the September, 2000 opening of the Intifada against Israel was the beginning push of this current madness ... then the Fall, 2000 USS Cole bombing, 9/11/2001, and so on ...
(adjusts tinfoil hat) ... and I'm not so sure that TWA800 wasn't part of the opening salvo ... regardless, the Pan Am Clipper of the Seven Seas brought down in Lockerbie in 1988 is yet more proof ...

CAIR ought to just suck it up. The Islamic world leaders can, and do,routinely incite their followers to the most atrocious of acts against anyone, but most particularly Christian and Jewish, who oppose them. There are no limits to what they encourage their followers to do. The sooner we get used to the idea that this is not a political/ideological war, but in fact a war based on exactly those principles the General speaks of, the quicker it gets finished. It is Good verses Evil. No less.If you have any idea that this evil is an abstract concept, go read the literature they publish and visit with them for a bit. Your sense of perspective will change radically.
General Boykin is a twelve year veteran of Delta Force and of all people should have a crystal clear vision of who the eneny is.

Senators who appeared before reporters at the Pentagon Thursday on another matter were asked about the reports. Sen. Lincoln D. Chafee,
R-Rhode Island, said he had not been aware of Boykin's views as described by the Times, then added, "If that's accurate, to me it's deplorable."
Oh, it's accurate Mr. Chafee, only YOU are the one that is deplorable.

It is about time someone exposes our enemy. Foeget PC. We are in a war against Islam. If the 'moderates' are out there, let them speak! I haven't heard a word from the 'moderates'. That man talked for the death of the Jews. Where are the 'moderates'? You, an American, will be wearing a head scarf if you don't wake up. These people hate America, hate Jews and want to take over Christian America. Islam is intolerant.

The truely pathetic thing about the Palestinian/Israeli conflict is at the start the Palestinian people had a ligitimate complaint. Now all they want is death and more death. Living is a concept totally alien to them now. And before anyone can make the accusation, they have long since used up any kind of good will they may have had coming. Now they are only wallowing in it.

Most definitely it's a religious war. When I was naive I thought that the Jihad in the Middle East was Arab versus Israeli. The big picture shows this is a war of Muslim versus Christian, Jews, Hindus, Anamists, Zoroastrians and others

Simply put, There is no God but one, and He is the Father of us all. Anything/one usurping that position is by definition a false god and therefore no god at all. It's a concept easily understood: you are either right or totally wrong. My God tells me that all false gods are the Devil.

Well, let us all know which religion you choose so we don't get the wrong one! Buddhists, Shintoists, Hindus, Muslims, maybe even Rastafarians are out there waiting to hear the Truth and here you are hiding your light under a bushel basket. Speak out, brother, and tell us all the One True Church and how to find our way there! Immortal souls may rest on your speedy reply!

The Los Angeles Times this morning ran a double barrelled hit piece on General William G. "Jerry" Boykin, with the front page story really being a thinly disguised editorial masquerading as straight news. The Times' journalistic ethics plummets to another low. I'll tell y'all why they don't like the general: he's Christian and liberals are intolerant of Christians who take the Bible seriously. Add to that their adoration of Islam precisely cause its anti-American and no surprise, you have today's article. Its "urine journalism," character assassination of a great American and patriot cause the LAT's staff found him to be politically incorrect. The last acceptable form of bigotry and intolerance in America is hatred of Christians and the Times' delivered it in spades. And they wonder why their circulation keeps on dropping? Give me a break!
