This will bankrupt the healthcare system.

What's this deal about living wills? AFAIK, Terri had no living will relative to this, only some claims by non-objective Michael re some supposed verbal comment.

Wow - thats a lot of mindless hyperbole in one communication, and you're doing incredible damage to your cause.

Keep up the good work, though - we need more of you out there talking like that so we can settle these issues statutorily once and for all.

The point is that the public isn't buying the familiy's claims, and the overwhelming and prevailing sentiment of Joe Public is that he does not want to be fed and watered like a plant.

So all this is another meaningless last-minute gimmick to try to keep conservatives on the GOP reservation then, right

I am not sure, I am just relaying what has been told to me.

My suggestion, call the people involved, call Senator Kings office and politely ask them what is going on with it.. call The Governors office, call Mr. Byrds office.. that is what I did, and this is what I was told...

I hope my information is wrong.. really I do..

King. James.

How can a man named after the greatest Bible in the world be against protecting the innocent from court ordered starvation and dehydration?

The irony is shattering.

...because this is not resonating with Joe on the street the way the family thought it would.

You're absolutely right and that floors me. This is not about a husbands right to have his wife let off of life support, this is about court ordered death of an innocent woman!

At the very least the husband is a selfish evil bastard!

"This wouldn't be the first time King has clashed with Bush and Byrd. He recently opposed allowing a special session vote on a state constitutional amendment that would have allowed parents to be notified before a teenage girl can have an abortion. "

And someone says this guy is a Rebuplican?? With friends like these, who needs enemies?

An interesting side note - I've had bunches of inquiries from folks who haven't had living wills made yet, stating that they want to do it now because they "don't want to wind up like that girl on TV". I can also say that my living wills all have the explicit direction to withhold food and water, and not one person has ever balked at that.

We received at least a dozen requests for living wills (Wisconsin's version of it last week). We usually get one or two a month at most. The requests were triggered by Terri Schiavo.

One local station ran a story (I can't find the print version) about an elderly man who wanted a DNR, no extraordinary measures taken and had filled out and signed the living will. What he failed to do was to file it with his doctor and the hospitals and the hospitals won't honor the family's requests--even after being given his living will. They now have to go to court to have the living will enforced.

Just make sure the people with living wills follow the instructions to the letter.

Meanwhile, according to Suzanne Carr, Terri's sister, Circuit Court Judge John Moore plans to hear an emergency petition filed by attorneys on behalf of the Advocacy Center for Persons with Disabilities.

The disability rights group is asking for a temporary restraining order halting Terri's death, for Terri to be fed immediately, and for a ten day investigation into numerous charges.

Moore is one of the few district court judges in the state of Florida who has not weighed in on the decade-long legal battle. Moore is a Reagan appointee who may give Terri's case a fairer chance than others judges have.

Good news maybe here too.

Interesting that they said any new legislation that may be addressed today cannot be retroactively applied, but the law that called feeding tubes life support, passed after Terri's collapse, WAS retroactively applied to her by Greer.

I do know the last time Terri's feeding tube was removed, the family went before a different state judge and got a TRO. When it was appealled, the appeals court kicked the case back to Judge Greer. And when the family filed a federal case (it was just recently) the federal judge said he didn't have jurisdiction.
