"Earworm"?!

I have a better term for it - "Last Song Syndrome"! I claim all rights to this term, as I've used it for years..

"I have a better term for it - "Last Song Syndrome"! I claim all rights to this term, as I've used it for years.."

But it's not the LAST song that is stuck in my head. It's a song I haven't listened to in YEARS from Dan Fogelberg's Phoenix album! Over and over - "Darker darker, don't let her talk her way into you" or something like that.

I've concluded that it happens because when I've been doing something sort of 'mindless' for awhile, my brain gets bored, goes to the attic, and starts rummaging around for something to do (think Chevy Chase in "Christmas Vacation" when he gets trapped in the attic). It starts opening old files, reminiscing, etc., and before I know it, it's brought this song downstairs and it's playing over and over and over and over...

Sometimes I can change the tune by playing something new I really like. It has to be MORE interesting than the tune my brain already dug up. Something refreshing, edgy - something my brain can toy with for awhile.

Maybe it's the brain's way of getting revenge for boredom. Of course, this is all just theoretical...
