TERRI SCHIAVO WHAT ELSE CAN WE DO?

Posted on 10/20/2003 3:26:05 PM PDT by AnimalLover

Wanted to pass along some information.

Have been calling everyone I could think of in Florida and Washington, including John Ashcroft -

lhttp://www.whitehouse.gov/government/ashcroft-bio.html

Called Hal Lindsey's office at TBN (Trinity Broadcast Network) - secretary had never heard of the case - gave her Terri's website - she said she was going to get in touch with Hal to see what he could do.

Called the Supreme Court- naturally closed for the day. Operator told me that to file a complaint, call the General Counsel of the Court at: 202 - 502-1100. She suggested I call early Tuesday since I live in California.

Besides rushing the hospital all we can do is pray... but I wouldn't suggest it.

Nothing they can do? Court orders are the last word in law? Yeah, right.

Note to Sweet (a disclaimer of sorts): I am in no way advocating Trinity Broadcasting or Van Impe -- I have as many problems with their teachings as I do with the RCC (altho I do like Hal Lindsay very much). BUT, we need all the voices we can get and QUICKLY!!

Hey don't knock TBN right now, some of the teachers KNOW how to pray and get answers. I have been going through the list of programs and sending prayer requests to the ones I know will pray.

I may not agree with everything they preach but I have hit Kenneth Copeland Ministries, World Changers, World Harvest Church... Will send in requests for as many of them as I can.

Now is the time to pray in one accord for Terri's sake. God is the God of the impossible. He can do great and mighty things.

I was wondering - can an annulmment be considered by the family? Then the mother and dad could be appointed legal guardians.

SHAME on Drudge; Shame on Fox. Shame on Lucianne, too, for that matter. I have been disappointed in those voices before, but that they aren't speaking for Terri speaks volumes about them.

I guess nothing interfers with the media's 24/7 coverage of Kobe and Peterson.

You're right, friend, it is a shame---and a tragedy.

And, I am surprised that Lucianne's voice hasn't been heard on this.

But, Freepers can and should be proud. The effort on these threads in support of the constitutional and God-given right to life has been an inspiration.

It is most likely a direct shot of morphine. An I.V. would help keep her alive, especially if there is saline in it for her vital organs.

A third party cannot seek an annulment in civic court. I think my husband and I would not be married if that was the case; both sides of the family would have teamed up to undo what is 21 years of marital, um, well, mostly he stands around reading over my shoulder....Okay. It's not bliss but it'll do. :-)

Seriously, the change in law that is most desperately needed is a way for concerned family members to have guardianship taken away from someone, even a spouse, who has serious conflict of interest and is not acting in the best interest of the patient. By denying Terry the therapy that might have restored her (to the point of being able to testify against him, maybe?) he clearly never was acting in her best interest.

There are assisted communication therapies that might have enabled Terri to communicate. She can move her eyes. That's all that is needed--she could have told everyone exactly what happened to her and exactly what she wanted. But he wouldn't let anyone near her who could give her that power.

Who is speaking for Terri besides us?

I see it on Glenn Beck. I haven't seen it on even the conservative news sites I read besides this one.

It blows my mind how people came out of the wordwork for the murderess Karla Faye Tucker (remember Larry King..), and where are they now for the innocent Terri?

We can thank the damn media for purposely not reporting this story... and when they do, they tell lies and half-truths. ("comatose, PVS, letting her die" etc)

I'm so mad right now. I just got home from work, what's the latest, the bill never got introduced?

who has serious conflict of interest

The Alice in Wonderland judge has already ruled there wasn't any. This is more than rose colored glasses, this is way down into the infrared.

Irony here now is, if she does get her tube back in, she may end up in a coma from the morphine, lack of food and water. We may want to be careful about what we wish for at this point.

THE BAD NEWS: the bill never was introduced, and there are freeper reports that the bill's sponsor, Speaker Johnnie Byrd, authored no bill at all.

THE GOOD NEWS: Senate President Jim King (the man reported to have said he didn't support the bill) now says he will introduce a bill to save Terri's life. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1004700/posts

Also, Jeb Bush MIGHT try something tonight: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1004229/posts?page=344#344

By denying Terry the therapy that might have restored her (to the point of being able to testify against him, maybe?) he clearly never was acting in her best interest.

Such a law already exists. Whenever there is a potential conflict of interest between a guardian and his ward, the judge is required to appoint a guardian ad litem. Terri had a guardian ad litem who complained that Michael's actions were contrary to her best interest. Michael's lawyer dismissed her, and Judge Greer refused to appoint another, finding that there was no potential conflict of interest.

Judge Greer's actions there were grossly illegal, and should have been impeachable (too bad Terri's family didn't go after him then), but unfortunately because appeals courts cannot overturn trial courts' findings of fact, and Judge Greer found that there was no potential conflict of interest, there was no way for Terri's parents to make Judge Greer follow the law.

Perhaps one thing that should be included in new legislation bearing Terri's name (if, as at this point seems likely, Terris death makes haste less important than quality) would be a provision which requires a guardian ad litem not only when a "potential conflict of interest" exists, but spells out some specific conditions under which a judge would not be able to deny a conflict of interest.

For example:

Both of those conditions clearly applied in Terri's case, and even Judge Greer would have a very hard time making a finding that they did not apply while allowing Felos to loot her trust fund or while signing her death warrant.

Unfortunately, I'm not too skeptical any longer about saving Terri's life. I think it is dangerous at this point. She is being administered deadly amounts of morphines and has had no norishment since 10/15.

What are our next steps? We can't walk away and be complacent about what happened. This sets a precidence that is dangerous.

Okay, those are very good points. Now, shouldn't other judges--maybe even Federal ones-- be able to stay the order on these grounds? Why hasn't any other Judge done so?

Judge George Greer needs to be investigated for one thing. That would be up to the Florida AG I suppose who is under the authority of Jeb Bush.
