Many states are becoming bolder and bolder in open defiance of federal statute in these areas.

The list will be expanded, as it should be.

And I've had conversations with at least one congressman who's become a Second Amendment absolutist not because he sees it as so envisioned by the founders or for the benefits it brings to American citizens, both of which he acknowledges, but because he really fears the reaction of his state government in the event of federal excess in attempting to disarm the citizens.

In other words, precisely the reason most of us argue that the Second Amendment exists.
A foul weather absolutist?

You can't make up stuff this good!

Well having actually read and enjoyed Travis's book let me say a few things. First off it has one of the nicest covers of any book I've bought recently. It positively POPS off the shelf in my library. It is extremely professionally produced, from that standpoint. Secondly the book is well proof read. I did not find any errors in it whatsoever. I buy lots of books from mainstream publishers that have WAY MORE errors in them. Lastly, and most importantly it is A DAMN GOOD READ! The character development is outstanding and the pace keeps you interested. All in all I felt I got my moneys worth and will definately by the next installment. Oh, yeah, it's available at Amazon. What else do you want? Would it be a better book if it said Simon & Schuster in little letters on the bottom of the cover? I don't think so.

I think

Hey, if you like the book, that should be the only thing that matters from your standpoint. I am usually suspicious of vanity published books, since the vast majority are amateurish, poorly-written rants that usually have nothing worthwhile to say. If one has to pay, at one's own expense, to have his or her book published, it tells me no legitimate publisher thought it was worth spit.

If it is ever to be, I'd rather sooner than later. I'm not getting any younger.

The longer we can stave it off, the more time some kids have a chance to grow up and come to age. I fear though, that the longer it festers, the worse the eventual eruption may be.

Would you be in favor of states defying the feds on laws covering things like freedom of speech and civil rights protections? If not, on precisely what basis do the states get to decide which laws they'll obey and which ones they'll ignore?

So far it's been a non-shooting war ... so far

Unfortunately, I have always believed that someday it would be a shooting war. I still do. I hope I am wrong, but I still do.

They get to ignore all the unconstitutional ones. In fact, thay have an obligation to do so, but they are too cowardly or greedy to fulfill their obligation.

Believe me, I'm all in favor of the Constitution. But my understanding of our system is that the courts, and not the states, ultimately decide on the constitutionality of laws. And defending our country's borders is not only a constitutional mandate, it's supposed to be one of the government's top priorities.

I note with some interest that there is nothing on the WOsD in Mr. Prager's articles. Kind of hard to bring such a topic up in the discussion since it is one of the few areas where both sides of the aisle are in agreement.

Good, so pay particular attention to the tenth amendment. That makes a huge number of federal programs as well as the WOD unconstitutional. And I don't need, and no person of normal intelligence needs, the supreme court to tell me that.

When the process of packing the court is complete, and it almost is, everything the federal government does will be concidered constitutional. And the war will begin shortly thereafter.

You are apparently on the wrong website, as FR is for CONSERVATIVES to debate. It is not a website for leftists who like to expound their leftist views. You spout many words, thinking yourself clever. You expose your leftist/liberal moral relativist ideology instead.

I think we are closer than anyone imagines. Right now that could ammount to the Dred Scott desision of a CWII is now taking place in Florida. There may be many of their issues that may make the LEFT heat up the war but there are only TWO that I see inflaming the RIGHT to war like levels. These are "gun control" finally reaching its goal of a full ban on firearms and legal INVOLUNTARY euthanasia being added to abortion in the attack on the sanctity of life by the left. The case in Florida involves a brain damaged woman named Terri Schiavo that has received great publicity lately here on Free Republic. Her huspand Michael intends to euthanise her by removing her feeding tube even though there is NO LIVING WILL allowing for this. This whole case points up another difference between the Right and the Left that is becomming increasingly "hot" now.

The RIGHT believes in a GOD GIVEN SANCTITY to human life that only allows its taking by Biblicaly mandated capital punishment for heinous crime, self defense against having a heinous crime committed on ones person, just (defensive) war or by GOD Himself at its own mandated end.
The left believes that humans are only animals and that human life can be taken right up to the last moments of the birth process (partial birth abortion) or when it loses its "quality" by being put in a "vegitative state" (euthanasia).

If Terri Schiavo's euthanasia is indeed involuntary and being done by as painfull a process as its opponants say starvation-dehydration is to anyone with any consusness at all this case could indeed lead to a Dred Scott descision that dehumanises the disabled the way the original dehumanized Blacks. Millions of euthaniasias of this type in the way we now have millions of abortions would certainly inflame the right into bringing out the rifles and the confederate flags again.

I would also like to be on the CWII ping list.

I agree. I have followed the Terry Schiavo threads with great attention, anger, and sorrow. I am planning a longer post, partly to kick sygmalion's butt, and prove him/her/it wrong, and partly to prove my point that the schism is really between those who accept the reality of moral absolutes, and those who worship their own minds. As Ann Coulter said at the end of "Treason", the difference between conservatives and liberals is that conservatives see that man is made in the image of God, and liberals think they *are* God.
