Whatever Happened to the Family-Friendly Disney Corporation of Our Childhood?

Disney is a true Greek tragedy. A once civilized corporation, managed by civilized people, is drowning in the vulgarity and filth being promoted by the new crooked owners.

And we cannot just reduce the whole thing to the profit motive. Walt Disney proved that one could make family-friendly movies, and still make plenty of money.

If we see the new Disney purely as a profit-driven enterprise, does anyone really think they would make racist or homophobic movies if it was profitable? It is clear that Disney uses a PC form of "moral standards". Bashing ethnic minorities is taboo, but bashing Christians is okay, irrespective of the profit motive.

I've tried to get all those Disney Classics. Sammy the Seal, Huck Finn, Daniel Boone, and countless others. Not much luck! Only Daniel Boone was to be found. I cannot imagine Disney keeping them hidden in the vault. The stuff they produced in the 60's was priceless.

By the way, according to the Schweizers, Disney also owns one of the largest soft-porn distributors in the country. The conglomerate has exclusive deals with some of the most prominent pornographic stars of cinematic sewage.

Dirt on Disney Book

Disney has a wonderful history of Catholic bashing. Anyone remember the TV series "Priest"?

Marlon Brando was right.

These are the people who host Gay Day at Disney World, a venue freqented by children.

I doubt it really matters how many times I post this when people already have their minds made up, but Disney does not endorse the Gay Days event in any way, shape or form. It is completely unofficial.

Disney has diversified their operations over the years, for better or for worse, but they still put out a good deal of family friendly product. They recently distributed "The Other Side of Heaven," a very positive movie about a Mormon missionary in the South Pacific, and have struck gold year after year thanks to their partnership with Pixar.

My advice: buy the family friendly stuff that Disney produces and shun all the crap that comes out of Miramax. If Disney finds it more profitable to focus on family entertainment, they'll focus on that instead of adult-oriented products.

I haven't seen a Disney film in forty years, but even back in the fifties they were pretty much sentimental dreck; even the cartoons lacked the 'edge' that Warner Brothers cartoons had.

Maybe the current product is as disgusting as posters here seem to think (I have no way of knowing), but Freepers who think there was ever a Disney 'Golden Age' are fooling themselves.

Well, OK, some of the animated feature-length films had great artwork, but even there the plots were vapid.

I've read that book. A must read. I nearly barfed after reading the chapter on how the Disney animators morphed Pocahontas into a PC crap-fest.

That web site is complete joke. One of their objections: "The Disney release "Hercules" portrays a God from ancient Greece, along with fellow Gods and Goddesses."

Give me a break.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=eisner+Birch+disney+percent+gay

According to the AFA Journal, Elizabeth Birch, a prominent homosexual activist, said to Disney CEO Michael Eisner "30 percent of your employees are gay," and Eisner replied, "You're wrong, Elizabeth. It's 40 percent."

Hmm... 40%?   That wouldn't be reverse discrimination, would it?

Disney doesn't promote the "Gay Days", but they certainly don't seem to mind them, either. A lack of disapproval will be seen as approval, rightly or wrongly.

You're probably right about them returning to a family focus if it were more profitable - but let's face it, it's undoubtedly sheer profit motive that's driven them in this direction anyway. (Look how profitable the porn industry has become, for example.)

My biggest objection is that Disney continues to mislabel their products. For example, the "ABC Family" channel certainly isn't. At 10:30 on a weekday morning, they showed the movie Casual Sex, apparently as a lead-in to Dragonball-Z. Produce whatever you want, but call it what it is.

Yes, they almost were bought and sold in pieces to the highest bidder...

Eisner was on the ropes several times when Disney stock hit the skids awhile back. Wonder how that S.O.B. survived?

What ever happened to Disney? It had a Queer Eye makeover! Once that 2% infiltrates any organization, it goes straight to hell!
