Gay dolls are outed

THE world's first talking gay dolls are set to come out of the toy box in Australia in time for Christmas.

Openly gay Elton the Biker and his plastic partner, Marshall, have racked up 300,000 sales in the US and Europe since their release 11 months ago despite an outcry from family and church groups. Their imminent arrival in Australia has brought similar outrage.

The president of the Australian Family Association, Bill Muehlenberg, failed to see any humour in the dolls.

"Given what a high-risk lifestyle it is, I'm against anything that encourages kids to explore it," Mr Muehlenberg said.

"It's as dangerous to parents as cigarette-smoking dolls or drink-driving dolls. You shouldn't make light of it and it should be taken very seriously indeed."

The release of the seven Trash Talker dolls, including beer-guzzling Bubba Redneck, black rapper Pimp Daddy and Patel the Indian by manufacturer JDK Products has prompted anti-Trash Talker websites, customer boycotts and bans by some US chain stores which claims they promote racism and stereotyping.

Creator Frank Makan has defended the dolls - which each retail for $21.95 - saying the stereotypes are "too ridiculous to be true" and the gay community has scoffed at the scandal.

Victorian Aids Council executive director, Mike Kennedy, said the doll was a gay stereotype just as Barbie is a blonde stereotype.

"Dolls essentially always deal with stereotypes and there are some gay men who look like this Elton doll but a lot don't," Mr Kennedy said.

"Are we going to say that we should do away with Barbie because she has blonde hair and promotes a certain lifestyle?

"I'm not sure who would buy this doll but kids are too rational to think it represents anything at all and adults are in a position to make choices on what they want to spend their money on."

Australian novelty stores are scrambling to import enough of the foul-mouthed toys for Christmas but demand in the US has seen orders bumped back for months.

"We're really trying to get them in but haven't been able to so far. We're going to keep trying, some have sold out and are discontinued," Australian toy distributor Julie Dodkins said.

Her Out of the Ordinary Gift Store has been bombarded with Christmas orders for the Trash Talker range since their release 11 months ago.

I was always confused by the earring, was it the left earring or the right that makes one a homosexual?

Now I know.

I seriously doubt that many of these make it into the hands of children. Most likely it will be a butt pirate novelty toy.

It depends on which side of the road it is legal to drive.

I think Australians drive in the wrong lane ;-)

That thing looks like one of my gay Sims. I have a pair of gay male Sims that I made that loathe each other - one is a mean leather guy like the doll, the other is a prissy, nervous professorial type. The mean one torments the professor, who then goes outside to cry and then sleep on the patio sofa. I named them the "Packers"

And no, I don't let children anywhere near that game...

I think you're onto something. I wonder if the creators of South Park are getting a cut?

You can do that stuff in Sims? I thought they came with personality already hardwired. You mean it's a choice?

Warning!: These dolls cost 22 dollars, and there's no way to be sure that the doll you buy is really gay.

You can give them personality points - high or low on niceness, neatness, etc. I made these 2 diametrically opposed, just to see what would happen.

And they're innately bisexual - if they get along real well they'll eventually end up, well, you know. I prefer making them loathe each other but force them to spend a lot of time together.

And you should see their house - zebra print wallpaper, the works. They keep setting fire to it, too.
