Contained in Thread 4:

.

Resource links to search business and criminal records in Florida, info on special guardian ad litum meeting (attempt to change qualifications?), Michael Schiavo parody, link to referral letter for Dr. Hammersfahr to the Nobel committee, transcript to Abrams Report closing commments - Nov.3, e-mail address for Larry King Live, Florida statutes on guardianship and some damning statements against Michael.

.

This thread serves as a place for posting all new general information and references, along with links following Terri's case, plus information on cable news and talk radio shows dealing with the issue, court cases and press releases. This is also the place to post contact information, prayers and general discussion.

If you have something that qualifies as BREAKING NEWS or FRONT PAGE NEWS, please post it on a separate thread in that category in order to give it maximum exposure and then post a link to the article/thread here so that it will be included in the next update of links. Also, if you post links to articles from original sources and there is also a thread on FR, please link to the FR thread. Many original links become corrupt over time and we want to be able to access the information at will.

I know we're all getting tired, but we have to hang in there. This isn't just Terri's fight anymore. It is our fight too. To everyone who has worked tirelessly to gather information, write letters, make phone calls, spend time in prayer, be at the vigil supporting Terri's family and all the many other offerings you have given for this effort, thank you and may the Lord richly bless you.

I really like the daily threads because they seem to be troll free so far. I will soon be posting songs about Judge Greer and George Felos. The Southern folk here may not be too crazy about the one I picked for Greer but I think it is ENTIRELY appropriate for a man who authorizes murder and the immediate burning of the evidence under the color of authority. ;c) It has been a long time since I felt I could post this motto again but I think I will start doing it again because I believe the defeat of Micro$oft (Bill Gates is a Pro Abort) and Gun Control (Hitler invoked GUN CONTROL before bringing about euthanasia and the holicaust) are also important battles in the pro life cause.

Guns, Linux and Liberty. ;c)

Heavenly Father, we return to give You thanks that You continue to expose the evil that surrounds this mother's child. Give wisdom and guidance and discernment to each one who labors for Terri's freedom from the Merchants of Death ... bind together all the pieces of information into one document of indictment ~ set it before the courts and before the world, that Terri might know again the beauty and love of her caring family. In the Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen ...

Beyond Abuse: Treatment Approaches for People With Disabilities

by Virginia Focht-New, MSN, RN

Reprinted from Issues in Mental Health Nursing, 1996, Vol. 17(5), pp. 427-438
(Taylor & Francis, 1996. Used with permission)

* * *

Abuse

Abuse is defined by Baladerian (1991, p. 323) as "non-accidental injury of a person by another or the committing of acts that could result in injury, through acts of commission or omission." Many forms of abuse exist: physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, and financial; acts of negligence; and violation of individual's rights. There have been few data collected and scant literature about the abuse of children and adults with developmental disabilities. In cases of general child abuse, 29% to 70% of children abused have a disability before the abuse occurs (Baladerian, 1991). People with disabilities are perceived to be defenseless and passive, which may lower inhibitions of offenders and thus increase risk of victimization (Sobsey & Doe, 1991). Victims are chosen because they are unlikely to report or resist the event. To compound the risk, institutionalization limits people's ability to make decisions for themselves and exposes people to a large number of caretakers....

Withholding Food and Fluids FAQ

What is the most common method of mercy killing today?
Withholding food and fluids.

How are food and fluids withheld?
A "prime candidate" for euthanasia is someone who is unable to communicate. (Such as someone in a coma or a persistent vegetative state.) Such people usually need assistance in feeding. This typically takes one of two forms.
One, the person may be hand-fed by a hospital worker or family member. In this case, to terminate nutrition they simply stop the hand-feeding.

Two, the person may be on a feeding tube. This is a narrow tube that is either passed through the nose or surgically implanted through the skin into the stomach. In this case, nutrition is stopped by removing the feeding tube.

How long does it take to die?
The average person can survive for about 40 days without food. An obese person can survive longer, as fat cells will gradually break down and provide sustenance.
Removal of fluids will cause a person to die much more quickly, in three to ten days depending on their health and strength.

What happens to someone when food and fluids are withheld?
The following symptoms typically precede death:

Mucuous membrances dry out in the mouth, nose, throat, and genitals. (If you ever been severely thirsty, such as after a period of hard work on a hot day, you have experienced the first stages of this.)
Constipation
Abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting
Emotional disorders, including depression and confusion
Delusions
Urinary and bowel infections
Bronchitas and pneumonia
Eventually, of course, bodily organs begin to fail and the person dies.

Are these symptoms visible?
Sometimes physicians will take steps to protect family and friends of the patient from seeing unpleasant symptoms. For example, the patient may be given drugs to prevent his body from going into convulsions, as this could be disturbing to those who authorized the euthanasia.

Withholding or Withdrawing Treatment

The issue of withholding or withdrawing treatment first arose during the case of Tony Bland a victim of the Hillsborough disaster, said to be living in a ‘persistent vegetative state’, better described as a ‘persistent non-responsive state’. In the case of Tony Bland the court ruled that his feeding-tube could be withdrawn and he could be starved and dehydrated to death.

By ruling in favour of the withdrawal of the feeding-tube, the court defined food and fluids administered in this way as medical treatment and therefore that Tony Bland was being kept alive by artificial means. Neither food nor fluids can properly be defined as medical treatment; instead they are our basic needs in order to stay alive. To describe tube feeding as medical treatment and an artificial means of keeping someone alive is also misplaced. Tony Bland could not feed himself, however he was capable of digesting his food on his own, he was therefore not receiving nutrition by artificial means. We would not withdraw a feeding-tube from a patient with throat cancer, saying that it is artificially keeping them alive, simply because he/she cannot feed themselves in the usual way.

Treatment can only be withdrawn if receiving it is a greater burden to the patient than the benefit derived from it. This cannot be said of tube feeding. The benefit of receiving food and fluids is that of receiving the nutrition we need to stay alive. This benefit is rarely outweighed by the small or non-existent burden on the patient of tube feeding. Food and fluids only become of no benefit to a patient if they can no longer be digested and thus provide nutrition.

Withdrawing or withholding food and fluids or any other treatment from a patient on any basis other than those stipulated above, is based on the subjective premise that the person’s life is no longer worth living and that they would be better off dead.

Orlando, I think this bears repeating to a couple of ears...

It's been pretty well documented that Terri was progressing toward divorce in her "final days." If we can kill her based on hearsay from conflicted third parties why can't she get a divorce on hearsay as well?

HOLD ON, SWEET LIBERTY!!! HOWARD DEAN WAS IN TALLAHASSEE YESTERDAY AND HE STATED "Gov. Jeb Bush and the Florida Legislature should be 'embarrassed' for stepping in to keep TERRI SCHIAVO ALIVE", Democratic president Candidate said Tuesday. HOWARD DEAN JUST LOST FLORIDA, on the heels of his comments re: the Confederate Flag. THAT IS EXACTLY AS WRITTEN IN THE ST. PETE TIMES.

Any DEM PREZ CANDIDATE who thinks the rule of law (such as it is) is more important than the "right to life", THEY CANNOT WIN THE SOUTH, NO WAY, NO HOW.

I'll be dropping by the Vigil site this afternoon to see if anything's cooking. If anything's cooking or there are any press conferences, I'll report back to THIS DAILY THREAD. Fregards from Terri's Angels

floriduh - I believe the hearing is today for the judge to decide if HINO is to be replaced as guardian to allow the Shindlers to take over Terri's care. God willing this will happen! We should all pray to not only ask the Lord to soften the heart of that judge but to open his mind to the truth of what has happened here. I believe this is God's will and it will happen!

Removing the HINO not only saves Terri but mutes the fight over Terri's Law, ends the writing of Felos (felon) book, saves the remaining funds available for Terri's rehab, and allows the Shindler's to sue HINO for all past grievances against Terri and the family.

Should the Schindlers be named as guardian, their attorney should IMMEDIATELY file for divorce on Terri's behalf. Let HINO use his own money for legal services (if he can get someone to represent him) as Felon will be long gone once the money is long gone.

"Felos" does not mean "kill" in greek. We already had this discussion.

Felo, in latin, means theif or robber.

From what I understand, Orlando, Terri's team did appeal to the court ~ prior to being disconnected from food and water ~ for a divorce, but it was ruled that she would have to indicate her wishes ... and since there hasn't been therapy along those lines ...

In other words, she can't do what they want her to do because they have not allowed her to do what they want her to do ... may the Lord sweep this evil away ~

PLEASE, I need you to read all of this, please do it for Terri... Hi all, Okay we did this once, I know, but WE ALL NEED TO DO IT AGAIN, PLEASE!! I guess they weren't listening or they think we will just go AWAY. We need to be heard! We shouldn't be ignored, more so Terri's INJURIES Should not be ignored! Terri's NEEDS, all the way around HAVE BEEN AND CONTINUE to be completely IGNORED! WHY is that?? So here is another way to make you're voices be heard , speak out, loud and clear for Terri and her family! Here is her bone scan report! This is the Bone Scan Report on Terri's injuries! Click here: > You all know what Dr. Baden Stated on Live TV ... what happened to him and what he said??? We need a MASS mailing to go out on her behalf, URGING for the "Officials" to open an Investigation and to look into the alleged reports of Spousal Abuse, that very well may have caused her to be the way she is right now and Abuse of the Guardianship that Michael Schaivo had over her all these years ... Where is her money for Medical Care? Why has he NOT reported to the officials as to where all Terri's money went? And WHY is he using it to pay his Atty. Felo's? More so, REALLY HAPPENED TO TERRI in those early morning hours?? The REAL FACTS, need to be investigated and now! PLEASE... PLEASE do this, we have to move now on this and maybe by tomorrow night, we may get some news, IF we are effective, we will. CIRCULATE this info and these address's and please do what you can... IF we don't make this happen, we have a problem. You all know what that will be. PRAY for Terri, please and her family. God bless you... If you have ANY trouble finding the strength to do this, then take a good look at this picture, it is of the Schindlers as they are first allowed to go in and see their daughter/sister as she lays DEHYDRATING and STARVING TO DEATH.... PLEASE I need you all to do this... [Unable to display image] I wrote this letter, feel free to use it, or write your won, do not forget to sign your name and address on it, please. Email addys to everyone below the letter! If you want to use this letter, copy and paste it and put it into a new email!! Dear Sir: I am requesting that you open a FULL investigation into the circumstances surrounding the NEW information, as well as the old medical information that was "sealed for almost 10 years" into the real cause of Terri Schindler-Schaivo's condition and old injury. VERY suspicious evidence has been (was sealed?) brought to light, that point to ... her husband, MICHAEL SCHIAVO, as the PRIME TARGET for investigation. This INVESTIGATION is LONG OVERDUE and should have been done at the time that she sustained injuries, but wasn't. WHY? Admitted into the Hospital with "Closed head injury" and is Diag. as a "Heart Attack?" Who is BLIND HERE????? X-rays and bone scans reveal the injuries Terri sustained were caused by T RAUMA and/or PHYSICAL ABUSE. As a concerned citizen and registered voter, I feel it is my right to ask for this to be handled in a swift and proper manner. Ms. Schaivo brain damaged or not, is entitled to due process, through our court system, which to date has failed her severely! Her rights are being violated in every possible way! There are TOO MANY FACTS that have been brought to light of a suspicious nature to allow this case to be "just another unsolved mystery" with a woman's life hanging in the balance and near death. And near death, ONLY because of the courts rulings, at that. Governor Jeb Bush intervened in Terri's behalf to have the feeding tube providing her nourishment reinserted when "The Terri Bill" was signed. However, should this "Bill" be overturned, Terri will once again, be facing DEATH BY DEHYDRATION and STARVATION. I URGE YOU, as a representative of the people of this State to act now and do the right thing, as we know "someone" missed the boat once and left Terri to drown!! Lets right this horrible wrong, shall we??? YOU CAN make a difference of LIFE OR DEATH for Theresa SchindlerSchiavo. I urge you, as a representative of the people of this State to act now and do the right thing, as we now know "someone" missed the boat once and left Terri to drown, lets right this wrong for this woman. Open a FULL and FORMAL INVESTIGATION into Terri's case. Thank you and God Bless You. Sincerely Yours, Now, the first and best way to do it is you copy the letter and then put it into a new email. Which judge is hearing this -- not George W. Greer, I hope?

Does anyone know why the daily thread keeps getting moved off the side bar?

The problem today is NOT that the daily thread is getting removed from that category, its just that no one seems to be screening out inappropriate posts to that category.

That sidebar category only displays the latest 10 posts. Terri's (daily) is 12 posts ago. When I just read the headlines themselves for the top ten, they don't SOUND like most of them belong there:

As soon as a moderator does some 'cleanup' and moves most of these to other categories, Terri's thread should reappear on the sidebar. In the meantime, if you click on the "MORE" at the bottom of the sidebar, you'll find the 'Terri' thread 12 or so posts down.

Some people, IMHO, deliberately post there just to get 15 minutes of fame before a moderator moves them to a vanity area. But no one is watching the store at the moment it seems.

If Greer is the judge, what then can be done? If he sided with the Schindlers after all of this, that would be backing down for him and admitting that he had been wrong. George W. Greer will never admit he is wrong, not even in the presence of the Almighty! Remember, he chewed out Jeb Bush over a letter written in August -- did so in such condescending terms that we all for a while thought that the "Republican" Greer was actually a Democrat.

Why would anyone think that George W. Greer would reverse his course of starvation/dehydration no matter what the evidence? The man is spiritually as well as physically blind!!!

Judge George Greer has scheduled a hearing to dismiss a petition from Schiavo's parents. They want to remove Terri Schiavo's husband, Michael Schiavo, as her guardian.

The hearing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Terri Schiavo

"HOWARD DEAN WAS IN TALLAHASSEE YESTERDAY AND HE STATED "Gov. Jeb Bush and the Florida Legislature should be 'embarrassed' for stepping in to keep TERRI SCHIAVO ALIVE", Democratic president Candidate said Tuesday. "

I think we should make FoxNews programs aware of his comments.

Is it in the newspapers? This is the first I heard of it.

I guess Howard Dean believes that judges are the supreme rulers of this country. The lesgislature governs, the judges are suppose to interpret the law, not make law. The legislature had every right to clarify the meaning of a law they originally passed. Even Judge Greer agrees with us in his ruling.

"In his order denying the motion, Greer writes that the group's arguments are philosophical and perhaps should be directed to state lawmakers."

Dean blasts governor over Schiavo case
Howard Dean says he is 'appalled' by Jeb Bush and the Legislature's moves in ordering a feeding tube reinserted into a brain-damaged woman.
BY PETER WALLSTEN
Miami Herald

TALLAHASSEE - Saying Florida Republicans should be ''embarrassed'' by their handling of a nationally watched right-to-die case, Democratic presidential front-runner Howard Dean accused Gov. Jeb Bush and the Legislature of interfering in a private matter when they ordered a feeding tube reinserted into the body of a brain-damaged woman.

Speaking just three blocks from the governor's office, Dean told a crowd that he was ''appalled'' by Bush and Republican lawmakers' move last month to overturn a court order and keep Terri Schiavo from dying after living for 13 years in a vegetative state.

''I'm tired of people in the Legislature thinking that they have an MD when what they really have is a BS,'' Dean, a physician and former Vermont governor, said to thunderous applause from about 200 lunching at the Capital Tiger Bay Club, a bipartisan group of Tallahassee movers and shakers.

Dean also lambasted Florida's Republican governor for his refusal to end the state's ban on gay adoptions. Earlier in the day, Bush unveiled a program aimed at finding homes for thousands of foster children -- but reaffirmed the ban on gay adoption while endorsing adoptions by single parents.

Bush's administration has defended the unique-in-the-nation ban in court, arguing that children are best raised by a man and a woman.

Said Dean, who legalized civil unions for gays in Vermont: ``In all the other states in the country gay people are allowed to adopt. It hasn't harmed children, and children are better off with loving parents no matter what their sexual orientation is.''

WHAT'S TO COME

Dean's comments foreshadow a tension that will play out in the 2004 election as both parties seek to mobilize their core voters to avoid a repeat of 2000, when the race ended in a statistical tie in Florida.

The Schiavo case and gay adoption have emerged as emotional wedge issues for both parties.

Republicans are seeking to engage millions of religious conservatives who failed to turn out in 2000.

Democrats want to mobilize gays, lesbians and other social liberals.

In the Schiavo case, her feeding tube was reinserted Oct. 21 after Bush signed a law written specifically for that one instance.

Democrats argue that the law violated the constitutional separation of powers.

Bush and other Republicans, siding with Schiavo's parents, said they got involved in the case because Schiavo could recover.

Bush spokeswoman Alia Faraj called Dean's remarks on Schiavo ''shameful,'' accusing him of being ``flip about a serious issue that involves protecting the rights of the disabled and, most importantly, the right to life, which is a fundamental right in the Florida Constitution.''

For Democratic presidential candidates, the issue has not been clear cut.

Dean's opposition contrasted sharply with recent comments by one of his rivals for the Democratic nomination, Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman, who told The Associated Press two weeks ago that he supported the Republican governor's actions.

''I feel very strongly that we ought to honor life and we ought not to create a system where people are being deprived of nutrition or hydration in a way that ends their lives,'' said Lieberman, an Orthodox Jew. His more conservative stands on a variety of issues have hurt him with liberal primary voters.

Dean visited the capital on his first Florida campaign stop since U.S. Sen. Bob Graham dropped his own bid for the White House, opening Florida up for fundraising and vote-gathering by other candidates.

`STRAW POLL'

Florida's primary is set for March 9, probably too late for the state's Democratic voters to help choose the nominee.

But a proposed ''straw poll'' at the state party's December convention gauging activists' opinions on the presidential field has prompted several candidates to visit.

Acknowledging that he might be pandering to the hometown crowd in Tallahassee, where Graham announced Monday that he would not seek a fourth term to the U.S. Senate, Dean said the state's senior senator was an instant contender to be his running mate if he's the nominee.

''I told Bob Graham the day he made his decision to drop out [of the presidential race] that he was on the short list,'' Dean said.

By venturing into Florida, Dean stepped onto the home turf of Bush, who recently ridiculed Dean for governing a state ''half the size of Miami-Dade County'' and labeling him a candidate for ``hot, angry people that aren't rational.''

Tuesday marked Dean's first visit to the South since the weekend, when his opponents began criticizing him for telling the Des Moines Register that he wants ``to be the candidate for guys with Confederate flags in their pickup trucks.''

Dean said he was referring to his strategy of helping Democrats retake the GOP-leaning South.

Several of his rivals said the remark was racially polarizing.

They also accused Dean of reinforcing stereotypes about whites in the South.

INSURANCE

''We want people who drive pickup trucks in the South to vote Democratic because their kids don't have health insurance either,'' Dean said Tuesday. ``We have got to stop having our elections in the South based on race, guns, God and gays and start having them on jobs and health insurance and foreign policy.''

Poking fun at the Confederate flag flap, members of the Tallahassee Tiger Bay Club gave Dean several parting gifts to remind him of the South: two country music CDs, a photo of NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt Jr. and a Florida State Seminoles cap.

So, even the hearing is labeled as "to dismiss" a petition to change the guardianship. Right after the FL law was signed, many of us thought that this meant that Schiavo would be removed as guardian. Now we know that this won't happen --- probably ever in CORRUPT FL. I assume the Schindler's lawyers can appeal this denial. I don't know how much longer the Schindlers can continue with this protracted legal challenge -- they must really be broke.
