.

Contained in Thread 4:

.

Resource links to search business and criminal records in Florida, info on special guardian ad litum meeting (attempt to change qualifications?), Michael Schiavo parody, link to referral letter for Dr. Hammersfahr to the Nobel committee, transcript to Abrams Report closing commments - Nov.3, e-mail address for Larry King Live, Florida statutes on guardianship and some damning statements against Michael.

.

This thread serves as a place for posting all new general information and references, along with links following Terri's case, plus information on cable news and talk radio shows dealing with the issue, court cases and press releases. This is also the place to post contact information, prayers and general discussion.

If you have something that qualifies as BREAKING NEWS or FRONT PAGE NEWS, please post it on a separate thread in that category in order to give it maximum exposure and then post a link to the article/thread here so that it will be included in the next update of links. Also, if you post links to articles from original sources and there is also a thread on FR, please link to the FR thread. Many original links become corrupt over time and we want to be able to access the information at will.

I know we're all getting tired, but we have to hang in there. This isn't just Terri's fight anymore. It is our fight too. To everyone who has worked tirelessly to gather information, write letters, make phone calls, spend time in prayer, be at the vigil supporting Terri's family and all the many other offerings you have given for this effort, thank you and may the Lord richly bless you.

I really like the daily threads because they seem to be troll free so far. I will soon be posting songs about Judge Greer and George Felos. The Southern folk here may not be too crazy about the one I picked for Greer but I think it is ENTIRELY appropriate for a man who authorizes murder and the immediate burning of the evidence under the color of authority. ;c) It has been a long time since I felt I could post this motto again but I think I will start doing it again because I believe the defeat of Micro$oft (Bill Gates is a Pro Abort) and Gun Control (Hitler invoked GUN CONTROL before bringing about euthanasia and the holicaust) are also important battles in the pro life cause.

Guns, Linux and Liberty. ;c)

Heavenly Father, we return to give You thanks that You continue to expose the evil that surrounds this mother's child. Give wisdom and guidance and discernment to each one who labors for Terri's freedom from the Merchants of Death ... bind together all the pieces of information into one document of indictment ~ set it before the courts and before the world, that Terri might know again the beauty and love of her caring family. In the Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen ...

Since he broke the holy marriage commandments..?

Beyond Abuse: Treatment Approaches for People With Disabilities

by Virginia Focht-New, MSN, RN

Reprinted from Issues in Mental Health Nursing, 1996, Vol. 17(5), pp. 427-438
(Taylor & Francis, 1996. Used with permission)

Abuse

Abuse is defined by Baladerian (1991, p. 323) as "non-accidental injury of a person by another or the committing of acts that could result in injury, through acts of commission or omission." Many forms of abuse exist: physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, and financial; acts of negligence; and violation of individual's rights. There have been few data collected and scant literature about the abuse of children and adults with developmental disabilities. In cases of general child abuse, 29% to 70% of children abused have a disability before the abuse occurs (Baladerian, 1991). People with disabilities are perceived to be defenseless and passive, which may lower inhibitions of offenders and thus increase risk of victimization (Sobsey & Doe, 1991). Victims are chosen because they are unlikely to report or resist the event. To compound the risk, institutionalization limits people's ability to make decisions for themselves and exposes people to a large number of caretakers....

Withholding Food and Fluids FAQ

What is the most common method of mercy killing today?
Withholding food and fluids.

How are food and fluids withheld?
A "prime candidate" for euthanasia is someone who is unable to communicate. (Such as someone in a coma or a persistent vegetative state.) Such people usually need assistance in feeding. This typically takes one of two forms.
One, the person may be hand-fed by a hospital worker or family member. In this case, to terminate nutrition they simply stop the hand-feeding.

Two, the person may be on a feeding tube. This is a narrow tube that is either passed through the nose or surgically implanted through the skin into the stomach. In this case, nutrition is stopped by removing the feeding tube.

How long does it take to die?
The average person can survive for about 40 days without food. An obese person can survive longer, as fat cells will gradually break down and provide sustenance.
Removal of fluids will cause a person to die much more quickly, in three to ten days depending on their health and strength.

What happens to someone when food and fluids are withheld?
The following symptoms typically precede death:

Mucuous membrances dry out in the mouth, nose, throat, and genitals. (If you ever been severely thirsty, such as after a period of hard work on a hot day, you have experienced the first stages of this.)
Constipation
Abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting
Emotional disorders, including depression and confusion
Delusions
Urinary and bowel infections
Bronchitas and pneumonia
Eventually, of course, bodily organs begin to fail and the person dies.

Are these symptoms visible?
Sometimes physicians will take steps to protect family and friends of the patient from seeing unpleasant symptoms. For example, the patient may be given drugs to prevent his body from going into convulsions, as this could be disturbing to those who authorized the euthanasia.

Withholding or Withdrawing Treatment

The issue of withholding or withdrawing treatment first arose during the case of Tony Bland a victim of the Hillsborough disaster, said to be living in a ‘persistent vegetative state’, better described as a ‘persistent non-responsive state’. In the case of Tony Bland the court ruled that his feeding-tube could be withdrawn and he could be starved and dehydrated to death.

By ruling in favour of the withdrawal of the feeding-tube, the court defined food and fluids administered in this way as medical treatment and therefore that Tony Bland was being kept alive by artificial means. Neither food nor fluids can properly be defined as medical treatment; instead they are our basic needs in order to stay alive. To describe tube feeding as medical treatment and an artificial means of keeping someone alive is also misplaced. Tony Bland could not feed himself, however he was capable of digesting his food on his own, he was therefore not receiving nutrition by artificial means. We would not withdraw a feeding-tube from a patient with throat cancer, saying that it is artificially keeping them alive, simply because he/she cannot feed themselves in the usual way.

Treatment can only be withdrawn if receiving it is a greater burden to the patient than the benefit derived from it. This cannot be said of tube feeding. The benefit of receiving food and fluids is that of receiving the nutrition we need to stay alive. This benefit is rarely outweighed by the small or non-existent burden on the patient of tube feeding. Food and fluids only become of no benefit to a patient if they can no longer be digested and thus provide nutrition.

Withdrawing or withholding food and fluids or any other treatment from a patient on any basis other than those stipulated above, is based on the subjective premise that the person’s life is no longer worth living and that they would be better off dead.

Saw a promo for O'Reilly tonight. He is going to have a woman on who was diagonosed to be in a permanent vegetative state. This woman could hear what was going on around her and is going to talk about her experience tonight.

I was musing on another thread about the sound of the word, felos. Sounds like a vulgar swear word to me. Anyway, a fellow freeper kindly suggested I check the dictionary.

Interesting, those Felos-de-se.
