I think that's whats called a blood moon.

Is that another name for the Beaver Moon?

On the east coast, where I am its coooooooold outside amd the moon is a beautiful coral pink. Quite a show

Coral pink? Can't really tell what color it is here in NY, but it just might have a coral hue.

Thanks for the ping coleus. It's a wonderful site.

Me too. However, I believe that reference was for Military time. 7:53pm.

1953 = 7:53 Military time

NOW doesn;t exactly mean NOW -- nothing yet on the west coast.

Aiiiyeeee! The moon is being eaten by a giant! We need to sacrifice a virgin.

There's a story that Columbus was once having trouble getting some natives to deliver supplies to him. Having an astronomy almanac aboard his ship, he knew that a lunar eclipse was approaching. So he warned them that if they didn't deliver the supplies, he would cause the moon to go away. They laughed and laughed . . . and then they delivered the next day.

This makes the second eclipse I've seen this year. No matter how many I witness, it still fills me with awe.

Scuttling back outside to catch the second half of the show. Brrrrr.....

Ahh...my day is complete.

I was taking pictures from my upstairs window, cloudless sky - as the eclipse neared totality, I heard a faint wailing that became more intense and loud. It took me several seconds to understand what it was ... here in the nuclear-free zone, apparently down in the park at the end of the block - a bunch of witches or moon worshippers, or brown-acid ingesters were baying at the moon. They kept it up for several minutes, kind of spooky... and then, just as the moon was entering the full shadow...
all these high clouds (clouds of what??) rolled in and blocked any more viewing or photo-taking for me.

Thanks for the reminder!

The sky was almost clear and I watched the moon rise over the Sandia Mountains. I saw the eclipse perfectly and had fun showing and explaining it to the children.

My 10 year old currently is going through an 'astronomy phase' so the timing couldn't have been more perfect.

Beautiful here in Alabama. The moon is nice and red/orange. Looks like a penny in the sky. My little 3 year old boy is yelling, "Hey, moon, come back!" at it. Just used a flashlight, and apple and and orange to demonstrate what's going on to my 7 year old daughter. O-->O-->0

Watching outside in DC. A bunch of spoiled teenage brats in Dad' BMW MPV stopped and told me not to bother. "It's all over man." He saw it all on TV. Love it when TV is more real than reality.

It's 8:25 in Central New Jersey. It's been clear all night, great views - until now. Clouds have moved in, and I cannot see anything in the sky - no moon, no stars, nothing.
