I googled the artists name and got this:
From: http://www.popasmoke.com/visions/image.php?source=3814
The artist is Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II, 24 years old, living in Greenfield IA. He paints something like this every year for Memorial Day! Our country needs millions more young Americans with Ray Sorensen's spirit. I received these from one of my former Cobra pilots in HMA-369, now Col USMC (ret'd). I wanted to thank the artist so I used a little ingenuity and tracked him down in 3 phone calls. I looked up the Ray Sorensen name in Iowa, using switchboard.com and found 3 listings. The 2nd call was his grandmother, a very nice lady. Once I explained my mission, she gave me his parents' home phone, explaining that Bubba was probably not at home right then. When I called anyway, he answered the phone. We had a nice conversation. He was unaware that the photos were on the Internet and probably been sent around the world by now. I thanked him for all of us and told him how much we appreciated his work. He, in turn, thanked me (us) and told me how much he appreciates the vets. OO-ooooo-raaah-hhh!!!!! Semper Fidelis, Ron Osborne
The young painter is Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II in Greenfield IA. email
bubbalca@hotmail.com; phone: ***-***-****
Phone number redacted.

http://www.greenfieldiowa.com/patriotic_rock.htm Patriotic Rock
The Patriotic rock, located at the Schildberg Construction - Jefferson Quarry and painted by Ray "Bubba" Sorensen. The rock was a local graffiti rock for twenty years for the surrounding schools. Out of respect, the local students have not defaced the painting in the past five years since Bubba has been painting his tribute.
"I love my country, and I do it out of respect for the veterans." Quoted Ray "Bubba" Sorensen.
Bubba draws a sketch of his idea on paper and then draws the design by free hand onto the rock. This takes him anywhere from one to three weeks to paint and he has been doing it for five consecutive years. Bubba is interested in military history and gets his ideas from books, movies, previous artwork and images by other artists.
The rock is located on Highway 25, just 1 mile south of Interstate-80 near Greenfield, exit 86.
If traveling from Greenfield junction 25 & 92, take Hwy 25 north 12 miles.

Where's the aclu? How about the du? What about the greens? Why is this rock allowed to be desecrated by paint and American values? I expected to see about ten blackshirts with cans of red paint, surrounding the rock while, in the background, giant squirrls hold rallies to defend this rock's rights...

I sure hope this is on private property and is being protected as much as possible, ya just know some brainwashed liberal kid is already plotting to tarnish this great image.
