Her Dying Wish: to Oust Bush (Barf Alert)
AP/Nola.com ^ | 11-8-03 | Staff

New Orleans - Gertrude M. Jones didn't want flowers or cards when she died. She wanted to get rid of President George W. Bush.

The 81-year-old woman's obituary asked that memorial donations be given "to any organization that seeks the removal of President Bush from office." And people around the country are following her wishes.

In an online memorial book to Jones, dozens of people posted messages of support. Many wrote that they would contribute to the Democratic National Committee or one of the presidential contenders.

The comments in the memorial book are pretty amusing. I sure hope I am not as bitter as Mother Jones on my death bed.

Gertrude can rest in peace, knowing that, as a registered Democrat, just because she is dead, doesn't mean she won't be voting in the next election. ;)

This story creates a vivid image.

A hand -- reaching out from a grave -- holding cash -- with insturctions -- every fourth year -- just before Presidential elections.

We can call it ... Grandma's Dead Hand Day.

No, they would just say we are not "compassionate conservatives." I'm not, so I don't care what they think. :)

I am sure that the only thing on this dying woman's mind was who the president of the United States is. If she were a true bedwetting liberal she would be donating that money to gay rights or free satellite service for the homeless. How naive does the DNC think it's constituency is?

Some Dems sure have no problem exploiting everything, including death, in their relentless hatred of Bush. Some of them even gloat over US deaths in Iraq. (See DU for examples)

What does a Democrat care about politics after they are dead? Where they are going, there ARE no politics. But this lady's vote will be safe for the Democrats for decades to come, as she shall never be deleted from the rolls. No matter who the Democrats support for office.

Of course, if reform ever comes to N'arlins, that may change.

When I first saw this obituary, about 1 1/2 weeks ago, I immediately wrote a check for $81 (in honor of Gertie's age) and sent it in to the Bush-Cheney 2004 Campaign with a note: "In loving memory of Gertrude Jones".

Ya know.... that is SUCH a good idea I think I'm gonna have to glom onto it myself.

My $81 check to Bush/Cheney '04 will be forthcoming. We wouldn't want ol' Gertie to have died in vain, would we? ;)

Here is the obituary from October 2. I wonder if this request is actually Gertrude's or her families. Whatever, I will follow your lead, So Cal Rocket and donate money to Bush-Cheney 2004. I like your style :-)

Gertrude M. Jones

Word has been received that Gertrude M. Jones, 81, passed away on August 25, 2003, under the loving care of the nursing aides of Heritage Manor of Mandeville, Louisiana.

She was a native of Lebanon, KY. She was a retired Vice President of Georgia International Life Insurance Company of Atlanta, GA.

Her husband, Warren K. Jones predeceased her. Two daughters survive her: Dawn Hunt and her live-in boyfriend, Roland, of Mandeville, LA; and Melba Kovalak and her husband, Drew Kovalak, of Woodbury, MN. Three sisters, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren, also survive her.

Funeral services were held in Louisville, KY.

Memorial gifts may be made to any organization that seeks the removal of President George Bush from office.

Let's all which I did express sadness to the family but at the same time point out the reason we are supporting President Bush....afterall she made her death political. How during the last administration we had a president tooo busy calling women bimbo's, lied under oath, increased the bombing in Kosovo to take the interest off his relationship with Monica....for all these reasons I choose to leave a better legacy for my children and with all respect will give in your memory to the re-election of President Bush.

...afterall she made her death political.

She may or may not have done that. I'd consider it just as likely that her children did it rather than she herself.

Either way, I'd call it a pretty pathetic situation. It's either a hateful final expression on her part or blatant politicization of their mother's death on her children's part.

A clear sign that an organization is a cult, is when it demands full-lifespan loyalty of its adherents. For the democRATs, there is no life outside the party, and no death either. They are soo scr*ewed.

I wrote: Rest in peace dear Lady.

Now that you can view the big picture from afar, it is a certainty that your opinion of President Bush has changed. Therefore In accordance with your new wishes which you cannot make known, I will make a donation in your name to the RNC.

This isn't the first fundraising ad the Democrats have run in the obituary page. There was another where the family took it upon themselves to ask that concerned people give money to the Democrats.

Some on FR pledged to give alright, give to the GOP. There were also comments that they would send a notecard to the bitter son who ran the ad/obituary saying that $10 had been contributed to the GOP in their memory. The Rats at DUh ran a number of threads encouraging people to give money to the DNC and were outraged (deeply saddened?) that FReepers would choose a time like this the politicize things. Never mind that some people read the obituary page to take their minds off of global politics.

Just talking about committing some $$$ to the GOP in the honor of dead voting DemocRats everywhere will be enough to rile up their base.

Good idea, but just be respectful and compassionate, but understanding that now she is heaven and can see the true scope of things, we realize that rather than oust Bush she surely wants to instead help him win another term, and promise a donation to the RNC in memory of her.

Even though the old bag is dead, I'm sure Terry Punk McAwful will make sure her "vote" is cast next November for Hillary, or whover she allows to be the democratic nominee.

I am tempted to leave a nasty message in the online guest book. I dont know whether its worth my energy to take a shot at a bitter old battle axe who didn't have a clue while she was breathing; I'm sure not going to be able to educate her now that she is in the ground.

Bitter, sad ending to this woman's life. I wonder how her life was prior? Either way, she could have made her life better by not leaving this world with so much hatred but..it's typical sad to say. Better her than me but I will pray for her soul anyway as I do for anyone that passes.

This reminds me of a story about an IN woman who died and asked on her deathbed to be buried in Chicago so that she can still vote.

Well, sometimes the "dead" also vote in liberal New Orleans too. New Orleans was liberal as early as 1945, particularly after 1970.

Wouldn't it be odd if in reality this woman's life was totally unchanged from one election to another? She just believed that she prospered with "democracy." It was probably all in her head. She was probably taught to support "democracy."

Years ago, a network, CBS I think, that interviewed an elderly voter in IA. He said that he had voted in some twelve presidential elections, but he could not tell one bit of difference personally no matter who won each election.
