McAuliffe: Bush Dodged Nat'l Guard Service

Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe complained on Sunday that President Bush shouldn't have worn a flightsuit on the deck of the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln earlier this year because of allegations he didn't fulfill a commitment to serve in the Alabama National Guard 30-years ago.

Complaining about the president's May 1 appearance on the Lincoln's flight deck, McAuliffe told CNN's "Late Edition" that Bush "didn't wear [a flightsuit] when he should have worn one when he was supposedly in the Alabama National Guard."

The insinuation that Bush dodged military service stunned fellow "Late Edition" guest, Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie, who shook his head in disgust as McAulliffe recycled the discredited charge.

The president did fly high performance aircraft during a stint in the Texas Air National Guard in the 1970's, a fact McAuliffe omitted from his diatribe.

The DNC chief delivered the low blow while complaining that Bush had prematurely declared major combat operations over during his Lincoln speech, while speaking beneath a sign that read "Mission Accomplished."

Revisiting the controversy, McAuliffe told CNN, "What the president was saying when he was strutting around on that aircraft carrier wearing a flight suit - which I remind you, he didn't wear when he should have worn one when he was supposedly in the Alabama National Guard - but clearly what came out of that was, he was saying that our job had been completed [and] major combat operations were over."

When the New York Times examined Democrat accusations that Bush hadn't fulfilled his full Alabama National Guard commitment during to 2000 election campaign, it turned up no evidence he had dodged serving.

And Clinton, will forever be known as the "War hero president."

McAuliffe is an idiot with no scruples whatsoever. He is the perfect person to be running the Democrat party. He is running it into the ground, and those of us on the other side, will enjoy a real "party" when he finishes his inevitable task. We are almost there now!

Cornered rats are known to go for the throat, in a desperate attempt to save their own skin. By the time the election rolls around, we will have witnessed the ugliest campaigning in American history.

President Bush shouldn't have worn a flightsuit....

Sick ......the Rats are absolutely obsessed with this "flight suit" thing. It's approaching the level of their obsession with the "stolen" election. Oh well, pretty soon they'll have something else to obsess about --- the fact that Dean lost the '04 election by a Mondale/McGovern-like margin.

Yep. We should not be too concerned what McCauliffe says because he has a political "tin ear" of massive proportions.

Where is that "Oh no! Not this s*** again!" poster? Hasn't this quantum LOSER learned that these tired old chestnuts have lost every election for him? The Republican Party is truly blessed to have him leading the Dems.

The Rats are so desparate that their "leader" has to rehash disproven bullshit in their maniacal rhetoric layed out on TV for all to see! I am loving this!

Once again, McAuful should be reminded that it is Navy policy that anyone flying on a combat aircraft must wear a flight suit. As Commander in Chief, Bush could have pulled a Clinton and flaunted that rule, but he chose not to. And, if he had, it would have been an insult to our troops.

BTW, does anyone know if McAuful was ever in the military?
