"Marriage" is not marriage if it is not recognized by God.

Marriage became more of a civil recognition than a religious one long ago.....

Well, gay marriage has just become one of the major issues for the 04 campaign. And, much to the dislike of the gay lobby, the majority of Americans will let their voices heard with their votes of disapproval.

>>>>My wife and I were married in a roman catholic church. But if were were married by Elvis in Vegas we would be just as married.<<<<<

In the eyes of the law yes. Also, God does blesses marriages between a sincere man and a woman (if He's asked), no matter where the couple gets their "papers". But Gay marriage will never have the benefit of Gods blessing. In Gods eyes, Gays WILL NOT be a sanctified union.

>>>>Heterosexuals do not have a stellar track record when it comes to lasting marriage in America either.<<<<

You are right here as well, this is due to the general decline of morality and "no fault" divorce. Couples no longer see marriage as the real challange that it is - they give up easily when times are hard, or when the other is not "romantic enough" , they enter into marriage too lightly- this is not Godly marriage anyway, so you are right by default only.

"Marriage" is not marriage if it is not recognized by God

Which explains the ACLU's attack on religion

One step at a time they trying to over rule God

This is clearly a blessing in disguise that I fear that many on the right, especially the Christian right will bungle for us. Loud mouth, extremist haters are going to be the ones making the news and putting conservatives in a bad light. They should lay low and only voice civil, reasoned, and quiet dissent. Put the heat on the 9 dwarfs and the very vunerable RATS in the Senate up for re-election next year.

FORCE them to take a position on this. The biggest losers in this are going to be Dean and Kerry. If the come out in strong support of the decision they will lose the middle America vote, the southern vote, and the Reagan democrat vote. If they oppose the decision they will lose the support of the radical left that they need to get the nomination. And if they waffle they will lose BOTH!

Completely agree. This won't fracture voters as some pundits have said. The majority of Americans don't want gay marriage. And it isn't a simple 51-49% majority. It is in the 70-80% range. Let the left and gay lobby destroy their own efforts. This ruling will backfire.

Little known fact. Congress has its own dictionary! For the purpose of writing laws, and for later court decisions, Congress has its own dictionary to define words.

This is true. The legal language is very specific and does not incorporate many meanings that the same words carry in everyday conversation. Marriage, in the laws of the state, is nothing more than a legal contract. It carries no sacramental or emotional or religious connotations at all. It carries only legal rights and responsibilities.

I suppose it would be possible to change the legal name of civil marriage to civil union and that term would pertain to any couple entering into such a contractual agreement. It would certainly involve rewriting a lot of laws, though.

I think it might be easier, as someone already suggested, to refer to a union of a man and woman that is blessed by the church, the religious community, and the Creator, by another special name. Actually, I think it's not a bad idea at all.

Well, now it's up to the Mass Assembly. They can choose to defy the Court--which is not a bad idea.

But somehow I don't think that the Mass. pols will tell the Court to put this ruling where the sun never shines...
