here's your majority...
2003/09/22...55-37...(ABC) 1028 adults, nationwide
2003/08/29...55-40...(CBS) 3092 adults, nationwide
2003/08/06...62-26...(FOX) 900 register voters*, nationwide
2003/08/19...52-41...(AP) 1028 adults, 48 continental states
2003/07/26...53-38...(PEW) 2002 adults, nationwide
* a word about the fox numbers...
although their web page headlines the poll "Six in 10 Americans oppose allowing gays and lesbians to marry", in fact their sample was restricted to registered voters. since only about 65% of adults in the US are registered to vote, fox's results, while interesting, cannot give us an accurate picture of what "Americans" think on the matter.
you majority has not been in to 70-80 range for decades now.
both.
but support of civil union tends to lead that of marriage by 10-15 %
I guess time will tell who people really feel about it
