Statement by the President On Marriage

November 18, 2003

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT

Marriage is a sacred institution between a man and a woman. Today's decision of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court violates this important principle. I will work with congressional leaders and others to do what is legally necessary to defend the sanctity of marriage.

Bush needs to hand Dumbocrats a gift-wrapped package of dynamite wedge issues and Dummycrats anti-religionism -- showcased by big buck anti-Bush campaign donors George Soros and Norman Lear (the latter runs the religio-phobic People for The American Way) - is a good place to start............ Excellent points !

Let's keep it going., Meek. Pass the message far and wide.

Our Forefathers, as visionary as they were, could not have imagined that the Judicial branch would have sunk to such depraved lows:
Constitutional rights to infanticide and sexual perversions.
God help us.

There is an advantage to having at least one state that approves such unions -- all the gay people will flock there to sanctify their unions, so at least they'll be all in one place.

I wouldn't count on that. They are not really interested in marrying. They just want to be "in your face." So, once a state has adopted homosexual marriage, they are more likely to move out of that state so they can begin to influence other states!

Hey Mr. Kerry, what if your sexual orientation is pedophile ?

I have long believed that gay men and lesbians should be assured equal protection and the same benefits – from health to survivor benefits to hospital visitation - that all families deserve. While I continue to oppose gay marriage

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what is known as talking from both sides of your mouth.

If a gay couple demands a religious demoniation marry them (church cermony), and that religion refuses, based upon their teachings, will the government intervene and tell the church they have to marry them, is this a direct violation of the first amendment?

'Course it is. In a free country, the government has no business forcing churches to marry people, or to do anything for that matter.

legal rights of all Americans regardless of sexual-orientation

Okay General, I will ask you the same question as I asked Mr. Dean - what if your sexual orientation is pedophile ? How bout bestiality ? Would you support someones 'right' to marry their horse ? While we are at it, what about necrophelia ? Isn't that a 'sexual orientation' too ?

What they are talking about is some hospitals only allow immediate family and spouses to remain in the room overnight, sit in the ER, go to pre-op, etc. And not all hospitals have those rules

There is a fragment (just a fragment) of truth to this "gay issue".

When so many gays were dying of AIDS in hospitals (1994 was the peak year), many things that happened around death (ICU visiting, all night visits, death notification, custody of the body) were restricted to family. Of course, family members (usually parents) and lovers were often antagonistic to one another.

In one particularly memorable instance in my practice, a gay kid was dying in a coma. The mother would come into the room and set up posters of classmates from high school and college who were supposedly his girlfriends (to show the staff that he wasn't really a homosexual), then, his lover would come in and rip them up.

There is no limit to people's ability to use their ingenuity to hurt other people.

"It's wrong for any state to discriminate against gays and lesbians by denying them the many benefits and protections that the laws of the state provide for married couples," Kennedy said.

Where is that in the constitution, senator ?

God bless President Bush. He speaks from his heart and his gut. It's also a great opportunity to talk about judges legislating from the bench and about why he is nominating people that will not do that. Hope he takes the opportunity.
I agree. And I hope so too.

This Massachusetts decision, bad as it is, deals only with the civil side of marriage as promulgated by the state. It has nothing to do with the practices of any religion concerning marriage.

That is correct in the strict legal sense, but ideologically, it certainly does pave the way to forcing churches to "marry" homos.

OMG...the only sensible thing that has ever come out of a Democrats mouth...and from Clark to boot! His old Republicanism must be leaking through. I think he'd be the only Dem candidate respectful of states rights

You are assuming that Clark is having a thought based on knowledge and reason - an attribute that he has not yet exhibited in any other statement. Please "consider the source" when you credit him with a sensible statement. I think it is just the stopped clock phenomenon.

Gov. Mitt Romney (R) of Massachusetts basically stepped up to the microphones today and said the same thing as Bush.

Good for him! Thanks for posting this info.

I hope Bush does step up to the plate on this and follows up on his statement. If this garbage goes unchecked this nation is doomed.

There will be those who try to use the decision today to divide Americans.

That's right. Those people are the MA Supreme Court judges.

How many HETEROSEXUAL people today really think that Marriage is a sacred institution?

I certainly do, and act accordingly.

Don't you?

"While there may be passages in Plato which imply acceptance of pederasty, in his last work, The Laws, he speaks as if he considers homosexuality to be contrary to nature. For example:

Mea culpa. You must be right. I was not going off original sources, but posted this from the internet. IIn going back I suspect the authour had an agenda.

In the meantime, thanks and it must be wonderful to have a command of Latin and Greek literature.
