How do I disable a cookie thats been placed in my computer by a website?

LOL, considering he/she needs help with deleting cookies, I doubt he/she gave little thought about what choices were available for eack of the Operating Systems :-)

Don't delete all your cookies unless you know your passwords to websites like FR, your ID and password to access many newspapers, and the like, because you'll have to sign into all of them again.

THEN YOU WILL DELETE ALL THE COOKIES!!! Just do what he said then view the cookies and delete what you want (you know, highlight, delete)

unless you want them all gone.

Unless you want to sift through legions of cookies and try to find the one you don't want, I found it's just easier to delete them all.

I should also tell you that if you are planning on keeping track of your cookies, you are going to be a very busy person. Almost all websites, including this one, use them.

I would download Win Patrol it has a cute little dog that barks whenever a new cookie is added to your machine.It also lets you delete them very easily.BE AWARE that Free Republic puts a cookie on your system but it is required to allow you to participate in the forum it looks something like this owner@freerepublic[1].txt

You can set your security settings to reject cookies at various levels. I would go to a computer store and ask to be shown directly how to on the mode of being an interested buyer.

That is usually good for a one time tutorial.

You can also download a browser like Opera and set it to delete all cookies when you exit the browser, or set an expiration date for all cookies to give them a set lifespan.

I use Lavasoft's Ad Aware, Webroot's Spy Sweeper, morelerbe.com's Spy Blocker to root out parasiteware, adware, and other back channel activity.

Lop.Com, Gator and other software/sites aggressively mess up your registry and make your computer very sick. Many people I know have had those sort of products and sites mess things up so bad they had to format and reboot the operation system.

I recommend Zone Alarm or another fire wall too. You just can't be safe enough out there.

I myself got a Lop.Com infestation, and because I am too stubborn for my own good, I learned how to groom my registry and many other functions casual users of a computer do not do.

I am using that old 266 right now with the same operating system bootup that got toasted. You have a learning curve ahead of you that you can persue as far as you have time and patience for.

The first thing I had to do with this sick machine was to enter DOS commands to go to access Windows 98SE files on the second drive (D drive) just to get it up enough to access things.

I understand how intimidating and baffling things are from where you are coming from, but believe me, you can do anything you ultimately need to do to defeat many of the things the wild wild west of the internet can throw at you.
