I went to "Cookie Central". Didn't see how it would be of much help. I did see this article though, e.g.,

This does not seem to be a prudent thing to do given the heightened state of alert for terrorism in malls. I'm sure the local mall security types as well as the local gendarmes

The technique I've used has always been enough to clear an offending cookie from being active. Perhaps a copy is stored elsewhere but not directly referenced by the browser.

Look for the word 'Tools' near the top of your screen. If you see it, click on it and you will see several options drop down. Click on 'Internet Options'. On the next gray panel that shows up, click on 'Delete Cookies'. This should delete all your cookies.

Google for a free program called AD-AWARE. It combs your machine and gets rid of intrusive spyware-type cookies without deleting good cookies like the one that allows you the convenience of automatically logging in here on FR.

I'm using IE on a Mac osx and I have set "ask for each site" and I decline 99% but yet when I check there are a couple of hundred cookies shown. What's going on...am I getting these on sites like yahoo finance and others that are enabled...

Before you delete all your cookies, make sure you have hard copies of all your favorite sites where you log in with a name and password...like here on FR. Otherwise, you won't log in automatically, and you'll have to remember your password, and if you forget it, it's a big hassle to find it out by email. You'll end up registering all over again, and everyone will think you're a newbie.

You can go into your cookies file with a word processor operating in ascii. The problem is, you need to be able to identify the cookie before erasing it and repositioning the file. I still use DOS Norton Commander for working with files.
