NEW YORK - The tribe has spoken: Elisabeth Hasselbeck is the new co-host on "The View."
Hasselbeck, who made it to the finale on "Survivor: The Australian Outback," was chosen after a three-month search for a replacement for Lisa Ling, the youngest member of the ABC talk show's panel who left last year.
"They say that life is full of choices, but boy, we had such a rough time with this one," co-host and executive producer Barbara Walters said Monday in announcing the winner. The other two finalists were Rachel Campos from MTV's "The Real World: San Francisco" and Erin Hershey Presley of the defunct ABC soap opera "Port Charles."
Walters said she and the other hosts - Meredith Vieira, Star Jones and Joy Behar - took a vote. Then they held up scraps of paper with the name "Elisabeth" written on them in a send-up of the tribal council vote on "Survivor."
"I feel good sitting here," Hasselbeck, a former shoe designer and host of the Style Channel's "The Look for Less," said after taking her seat at the table. "I have to say, after last week, I was so sad to leave."
The 26-year-old also watched a recorded message from her husband, Washington Redskins quarterback Tim Hasselbeck, congratulating her on the job.
About 20 people auditioned, including former MTV host Kennedy, singer Carnie Wilson, Michael Jackson's niece Valencia Jackson and Associated Press Entertainment Writer Christy Lemire.

I never watch this show but seem to remember Laura Ingraham was on their once and all of them were attacking her over her new book Shut Up and Sing except for someone who was auditioning. Was that Hasselbeck?
I don't know about her politics but she's a cutie.

Her husband is an NFL quarterback, that is all I really know about her.

Barbara WaWa was on Hannity saying one (out of many) of the ladies that was interviewing out for the position was conservative. I wonder if she was the one? Probably not.

Anyone who watches the show know about her political views? Or is she just a typical young sheeple?

I didn't really expect them to pick Rachel, but I really liked her. Seems like she disagreed with them quite a bit.

So did she have to recite Fidel Castro speeches, The Communist Manifesto, and the Democratic Party Platform from memory in order to secure the job?
To: b4its2late
I'm thinking that Rachel Campos was the conservative one.

The other day Howard Stern had a clip of Star Jones hawking some crap on QVC. She was breathing hard into the mic and it sounded like she was going to have a heart attack. I think her butter neck is cutting off her air supply.

I think the show would be more interesting if they had a couple of men who came on the show as regular guests. I think that'd get more men to watch it for more than 5 seconds and the female viewers would also like the break from the monotony.
The show still wouldn't be on my top 10 (or 25) list but it'd improve it.

If Babwa says there was one conservative, then that was Rachel Campos. Which would make Hasselbeck the usual flavor.
To: JohnGalt
"Her husband is an NFL quarterback, that is all I really know about her."Which one? Matt or Tim? Both had a good day yesterday, of course Seahawks were robbed! I digress, she's a hotty. If she's married to Matt no wonder he has such a bald spot on his head! :o
To: pnz1
I've never watched the show, but I read an article about the search for a replacement host. She seemed nice, but
with didn't seem to have a chance since she wouldn't parrot the views of the rest of the geese.
To: Callahan
Oh, the fat one. She's kind of funny, in an Al Sharpton sort of way. I know she's a hard leftie but she at least has some fun with politics.
She's about the only normal one on the show who isn't a pampered and coiffed mannequinn.

Rachel Campos was the conservative who was a finalist. She basically lost out when Laura Ingraham was on promoting her book. The discussion turned to the Reagan movie being taken off CBS. The View women were talking the dem talking points and were shocked at the "censorship". Campos sided with Ingraham and even went so far to say that Reagan is a beloved President. She lost that job in that moment.

Joy Behar has to be the most despicable old hag on TV.......NO redeeming qualities at all.
She was the fired from WABC radio for being unprepared for her show and being particulary vicious.
She immediately did a Woody Allen movie, at the height of the child molestation charges.
IOW, Behar's a puke.

I just saw Elizabeth Hasselbeck on the View for the first time today.... I had to do a search to see if she was mentioned on Freerepublic. She made what by mainstream American standards would be a non-confrontational comment about what a good job Bush is doing and praised him for capturing Saddam. And she dared to openly comment that she believed the world was much safer now that Saddam has been captured. She was perfectly pleasant and smiling the whole time. But it was unbelievable how worked up the rest of the View's women were! Joy made some underhanded statement about how she didn't understand how the world was any safer (which is strange since I swear she's Jewish, and Saddam was a bigger threat to Israel than to America). Then Joy challenged Elizabeth, and she confidently held her ground. Barbara and Star made some snide statements about how Bush had used the event for political purposes and that it's all politics. Star made some comment suggesting that Bush is the worst offender when it comes to political manipulation.... then Hasselbech dropped the name Clinton very loudly to make a point.
Well long story short, I was really impressed with Hasselbeck's ability to be straightforward, cast a dark bitter shadow over the rest of the View, and still remain a bright, smiling ray of sunshine.
