You wouldn't believe the latest one today. There are two newbies claiming to be the mother and aunt of a U.S. soldier who was raped in Kuwait. One immediately used the "j" word, too. Even though no one appeared to be "judging" her niece.

Now, that is such breathtaking arrogance I'm not even going to ping the list. I just hit abuse on both of them. These people can get on the forum and say whatever they like, because they know that the soldier's identity will be kept secret and therefore nothing THEY say can be confirmed or challenged.

Yes, and after six days and about 250 posts, along come the "mother" and the "aunt" yesterday with their two cents.

I decided not to call everyone's attention to that one. There's just no way to gracefully flame the "female relatives" of a real female rape victim, even if they are a pair of sick phonies. I think maybe that is the point of these posts. To get people to say "look how mean those freepers are. Yes, I was lying about who I was and what happened, but just look how mean..."

Lib-nutz can say this over and over again about conservatives. In fact, they do. But it goes to the essential differences btw them and conservatives. The "meanness" they complain about can also be called healthy skepticism. Actually, it is not "meanness" (as I know you are well aware), but affinity for candor. A tendency to call a spade a spade. A tendency to cut through the bullshit and the spurious emotions, and to size up a situation as objectively as possible.

Let's not be afraid to be what we are. Okay, I'm not lecturing, I'm just telling what I believe is right for myself.

The conservative will not be able to get past "Yes, I was lying about who I was and what happened." The spiteful liberal will gloss over that and say, "Well, they COULD have been poor, grieving relatives, SO..." SO, let's keep the focus on YOUR meanness, instead of on THEIR lying.

If we adopt the "it could have been a tragic victimization" attitude, then we would need to go back and say, "I know Tawana Brawley really didn't get raped and smeared with feces by a group of white male criminals, but it COULD have happened, b/c there are so many racists out there, and so let's focus on that imaginary wrong... besides, we really get off on imagining eevil white male racists victimizing a poor young black girl."
