Why ZOT! will be the next President of the United States of America

Posted on 11/25/2003 10:14:15 AM PST by admittedly an opposing view

Edited on 11/25/2003 10:20:40 AM PST by Lead Moderator. [history]

Howard Dean is a mainstream candidate; he enjoys support across the broad mainstream of U.S. political opinion, from Greens to Republicans, between and beyond, who particularly appeals to metrosexual confederates. Many of his positions are consistent with those of traditional Conservatives and Libertarians.

Howard Dean is not an ideologue; he bases his positions on the facts, and when the facts change he adjusts to the changes.

Howard Dean is not a weathervane; he does not have to take a poll, convene a focus group, or consult with political hacks to find out what his convictions are, or to act upon them.

Howard Dean is a long proven balanced budget fiscal conservative; he knows that without a balanced budget and an adequate reserve, government will not be able to provide the services citizens not only desire, not only deserve, but need. When Howard Dean succeeded to the Governorship of Vermont, he inherited a serious budget deficit. (Vermont is one of only two states that does not have a constitutional balanced budget requirement.) Governor Dean submitted and achieved eleven successive balanced budgets, paid down a large portion of the state debt, and accumulated a sizable reserve fund. At the same time, he lowered taxes, encouraged business, protected the environment, and brought medical insurance to virtually everyone in the state. As a result of his fiscal conservatism, Vermont is the only state that has not had to increase taxes or reduce public services during the current recession. Is it any wonder that he was the longest-serving governor in the history of the United States, returned to office five times?

Howard Dean is restoring participatory democracy; his is the first true grassroots campaign in decades at least. Other candidates tout their "grassroots" campaigns, which are top-down, centrally controlled organizations of "little people" following orders and big donors expecting access. Of course the Dean campaign has a headquarters, paid staffers, and everything else necessary; but its hallmark is its huge network of self-organizing, self-actuating, autonomous support groups and individuals, who are continually made to feel welcome, to feel trusted, and to feel that their opinions are listened to.

Howard Dean knows how to bring about universal health coverage, and is commited to doing so. Both as practicing physician and as governor, Howard Dean has shown he knows how to get the job done. His solutions are practical; they would not pass any test of ideological purity, but they work. If Vermont, which is almost exactly average in per capita income, can achieve nearly 100% health care coverage, so can the entire United States.

Howard Dean and "wedge" issues. Shallow propagandists who show their contempt for the voters by practicing the politics of division will have rocky soil to plow with Howard Dean. With regard to the Iraq war, when people ranging from Senator Edward Kennedy and Senator Robert Byrd to former President George H.W. Bush and Pat Buchanan are all in broad agreement with Howard Dean, it is pretty hard to paint him as outside the mainstream on that issue. With respect to civil rights for gays, Howard Dean's position is indistinguishable from that of Vice President Dick Cheney and in accordance with the expressed opinions of voters. On race relations, Howard Dean has what is arguably one of the best positions of a major party candidate in recent times--and it's for real.

Gee. I never thought of it this way.

I guess you're right. Bush is toast. There is NO way he can defeat Dean. Thanks for removing the scales from my eyes. I can see clearly now.

In fact, I think Bush should just resign now, and invite Dean to take over. (I know it wouldn't be constitutional, but I'm sure the 9th Circuit Court could make it happen.)

Doubtful. Howard Dean is taking a big political risk opposing the war in Iraq. If the situation improves by next year, which I believe is likely and the economy stays the course, he will get trounced like Mondale in 84 if he is the Dem's nominee. Also Dean has no plans on how to combat terrorism and no solution to what to do in Iraq now that major hostilities have ended other than pull out, which the American people clearly reject. Also I'm not sure any Republican could ever support Dean. Bottom line is Dean has no plan for the war on terror and the American people will not tolerate another Democrat who clearly has no idea of how to improve our security.

True. He looks more like a fire hydrant. An angry fire hydrant that puffs up, turns red, and flails its spindly limbs. An angry fire hydrant who believes that all Southerners drive pickup trucks with Confederate flag decals.

I have to admit, I love Howard Dean! Dean offers the GOP the best chance to keep the White House, plus get filibuster proof majority in the Senate. Dean is a huge gift. I bet Karl Rove is behind Dean.

I turned FIVE! We went to Chuck E Cheese and I got lots of presents and had a good time. It was the last time I saw my friends from my old preschool because now I'm in kindergarten.

I got an electric car racing game, a Stuart Little Roadster, and my mommy and daddy got me my own REAL computer!!! The first thing I did was to go ONLINE!!!I wrote something nice about a man named Mr. Dean who mommy says is really misunderstood because he stands for all this neat stuff.

Now a lot of other people are showing me pictures of scary stuff. Do they want to be my friends?

What is this about? I don't believe Alaska has been forced to increase taxes or reduce services. We'll see what Alaska does when Sen Stevens retires probably next year; a lot of federal spending in Alaska may go away. But that spending is not of the kind that the State would pick up.
