Chris Wallace to replace Tony Snow at Fox News Sunday
FNC

According to a promo aired during Special Report moments ago, Chris Wallace (son of Mike Wallace and broadcast network correspendent in his own right for more than two decades), will become the host of Fox News Sunday beginning December 7.
Tony Snow, who has given up his substitute anchor duties on Special Report to undertake a talk show on the Fox Radio Network, has not commented, when making on-air announcements of his schedule change, that he is also giving up the excellent and popular Sunday morning talker on the Fox Broadcast Network. Whether the promo which ran tonight represents a change in plans or something which had been planned all along is unknown.

I can just barely stand the sound of Tony's voice for an hour.
When I heard him subbing for Rush, I immediately switched stations.
Only Wolf Blitzer has as a monotonous voice as Tony Snow.
I give his new radio show 60-90 days, at best!

Fox Network (not the cable outlet) is trying to improve the ratings of their Sunday show. I don't know what the ratings have been recently, with the collapse of ABC's Stephanopolous show, but Fox's Sunday show has been last among the four network Sunday shows most of the time.

And bright.
He's a loss for FOX News.

Say it ain't snow!
Chris Mallace will replace Tony Snow? Physically, perhaps, but Fox News ought to start looking for Prissy Chrissy's replacement starting today, November 25, 2003. Look for ratings to go into the tank.
To: nuconvert
He isn't leaving Fox News. He will still host Brit's show on Friday and the Weekend news slots as before.
Regarding Chris Wallace....... He is his father's son. Mike Wallace is responsible for decades of biased reporting. We can only hope Roger Ailes knows what he is doing. Perhaps Chris had a nephiny and a blinding flash of light cleansed the leftist bias from his soul.
We'll see.

I live in Chicago. We only have one radio station here - WLS-AM. It's owned by ABC but it's 90 percent Conservative. I do a little BCB DXing at night - I can hear many stations east of the Rockies all the way to Philly - but I've never in all my radio "travels" heard a FOX Radio station. But I'll be looking for one. : )

. . .well, whether Tony's' voice is one you love or love to hate; I do wish him best of success in his new medium. A voice of reason and truth is always a blessing to share with an audience.
I do listen to him; but am continually annoyed by what I have described as the 'smile in his voice'.
Perhaps that is the monotony you describe. I find myself wondering; what does he sound like when he is 'really' mad.
And I conclude; he probably sounds like he is smiling 'ear to ear'.

You know how they say some people have a "face for radio"?
Snow is the opposite: he has a "voice for television". He says good things, but his voice can't compete against Rush, Savage, etc.
And the conservative radio market is far too overcrowded.
To: FL_engineer
Oh my; it will be difficult for me to tune in to watch Wallace...He just looks too much like that transvestite sports broadcaster with the toupee, Marv Alpert is it?
To: dep
Old news. This was announced and posted here a couple of weeks ago.
Tony's starting a national radio show and will still appear on Fox now and then. I think this is a coup by Roger Ailes. It puts Fox on roughly the same footing as the broadcast nets as far as the prominence of its anchors is concerned. And there's a wonderful symbolism in having old pinko Mike's son associated with a news channel that really does present both sides of issues.
Remember: Ailes's job is not to be politically partisan but to generate ratings (and revenues) for Fox. Given his past record, he can be depended on to insist on political balance in Wallace's reports. According to Wallace, the only political question Ailes asked him in the job interview was: "Can you wake up in the morning and not blame America first for all the world's troubles" (in quotes but a paraphrase from memory). Wallace answered "Yes," and Ailes hired him.
The more people who are exposed to both sides of the news the more conservative voters there will be. Fox has already had an enormous beneficial impact on American politics.

Wallace Sees Fox as Fair, BalancedOctober 27, 2003
By Howard Kurtz
Washington Post
Chris Wallace admits he had reservations about leaving ABC for Fox.
"I had the same conception a lot of people did about Fox News, that they have a right-wing agenda," he said yesterday after being named the host of "Fox News Sunday." "I'm a straight-newsman -- I plead guilty."
But he became convinced after months of watching Fox News Channel that the network gets "an unfair rap. Its reporting is serious, thoughtful and evenhanded. . . . If they wanted someone to push a political agenda, they wouldn't have hired me."
Wallace, 56, whose likely hiring was reported yesterday, represents a shift for a network whose biggest stars (Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Brit Hume) are viewed as conservative. Tony Snow, who is stepping down as host of the Sunday show, had been a conservative columnist and worked for President George H.W. Bush.
That means Wallace, who will also play a key role in Fox's presidential campaign coverage, will be its first front-line star since Hume to have made his name as correspondent for one of the broadcast networks. Along with such moves as hiring Greta Van Susteren from CNN and co-sponsoring presidential debates with the Congressional Black Caucus, Fox seems to be inching toward more conventional journalism.
"Do I have political opinions? Absolutely," Wallace said. "But I vote for the person, and I've voted for Republicans and Democrats and independents over the course of my life. I feel very strongly that you try not to let that affect the way you report the news. I'm taking Fox up on its slogan," which is "fair and balanced."
Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes called Wallace "one of the best interviewers in the business. . . . I have no idea what he thinks personally, but he asks tough questions of everybody."
Ailes said the hiring of Wallace "makes it more difficult for our critics" who say the network tilts to the right. "They want to pigeonhole us into something that their imagination tells them," Ailes said.
Brit Hume, Fox's Washington managing editor, has known Wallace since both covered the House in 1978 and loves his sense of humor. "Having a pedigree in the journalistic establishment doesn't hurt," he said. "That's not a big priority for us. We don't think we can ever be approved of by the journalistic establishment as we know it." After "some grumbling," Hume said, "I think he'll be accepted by our audience."
James Wolcott of Vanity Fair, who has written critically of Fox, said Wallace "does give them a certain blue-chip quality. But you have to wonder how much a real professional journalist of the old school is going to resist the talking points that seem to get handed down. The test will be, will he fall in with the gang?"
Wallace, who has won three Emmys, is now senior correspondent for "PrimeTime Thursday" and an occasional substitute anchor on "Nightline." He said ABC had treated him well and, with his contract nearing expiration, there was talk of him becoming chief diplomatic correspondent for "World News Tonight."
[there's more to the article but I don't know if I can post the whole thing and want to abide by FR rules]
And the last sentence is...
The only remotely political question Ailes asked him, said Wallace, is "Can you wake up in the morning without assuming the U.S. is in the wrong?"

Smiling voice.....I like Tony but he also suffers from ILS...Inappropriate Laughing Syndrome. He laughs ALL the time when he even is reporting a serious story.

The Fox liberals are getting on my nerves.....too shrill and un-attractive to watch.

I heard Snow weeks and weeks ago, I think even before Rush went into rehab, say he was getting a radio show. He was filling in for Rush the day he broke the news. He was animated, opinionated and even a bit humorous. All of this came as a surprise to me because I generally find him to be boring which he quickly returned to in subsequent appearances.
The only "not to miss" for me on FNC is Hume. I don't much care about Snow leaving or who is replacing him. I will watch the Sunday show on a guest basis, not host.

"He laughs ALL the time when he even is reporting a serious story."
I think that may be part of the 'smiling voice syndrome' :^).
. . .but know what you mean. Have wondered sometimes, is he really laughing or .. .what? Sometimes I think it is his voice pattern. . . and sometimes I think he is laughing at the 'bad'; but maybe he is experiencing it as the 'theatre of the absurd' for the day or somesuch.
I do wish he would get really, appropriately angry; and if he already does, then he needs to work harder communicating that.

Put Fox Radio into a google search. It will probably provide you a link so you can listen on your PC as you read stuff on FR or wherever else you want to search. Just don't disable the link or you will be like the Left, without credible info.

I'm very disappointed! I thought Tony did a great job on FNS, and it was the best of the Sunday talkies. Chris Wallace is capable enough, but it will be interesting to see how a Liberal behaves on Fox.
I always enjoyed Tony's work filling in for Rush. I'll definitely try to find his radio show. I disagree that he has no future in talk radio. I'd listen in a New York minute!
To: Musket
Wow, it's hard for me to imagine that a big city like Chicago doesn't have a Fox radio station, while little Sacramento does. We have several AM radio stations, in fact. ABC (at least 2), Disney, ESPN, some Christian stations, and others whose affiliation I don't know. Mostly conservative, if they're political, except that the ABC news seems to be tilting further to the left these days. Maybe I should complain to the station management.
I visited the Chicago area a couple of years ago. It seemed pretty nice, for the whole 2 days I was there...

To: exDemMom
Perhaps I should rephrase that - we only have one station worth listening to. The rest are music - mostly bad music, lame talk that tilts Left - like WGN, stupid talk like WCKG, a few sports talk, and one Classical station. Oh and the local NPR Leftist talk. And a couple Christian stations.
But just one little ole Conservative station. And I'm surprised it is allowed to broadcast at all as this town is owned, locked and sewn up by the Democrats. WCKG has recently started airing O'Reily at 10 pm thereby being the first conservative to break the FM dial here. FM in the daytime is where Conservatives need to be here as most everyone is working in a stucture that shuns AM signals thereby keeping disenting voices quiet and the populace stupid. It's a sweet deal for the Dems.

[I think Chris Wallace is a great replacement for Tony.] "Why?"
Well, I really do not know where he stands politically; but I assume since he is intelligent, well-spoken and experienced that he will first, make a good appearance on FoxNews, and he will have something interesting to say about important issues.
And coming from ABC (NBC prior), Wallace may bring followers who otherwise might never visit Fox; and that is good.
I have rationalized, that if his leanings are not the 'right' ones; he will soon see the light after his immersion into 'fair and balanced'.
And here, I am trusting his curiousity and reason-capable intelligence. . .and the fact that he seems like a nice guy.
