FORT PIERCE, Fla. (AP) - A flight attendant who was aboard United Airlines Flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania during the terrorist attacks two years ago was memorialized with a life-size statue.

More than 150 people applauded Wednesday as her husband and four sons slipped a golden cloth off the statue of CeeCee Lyles at a Fort Pierce memorial for the heroes and dead of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

"I have to say that it has brought tears to my eyes," the woman's husband, Lorne Lyles, told sculptor Chris Riccardo, 35.

CeeCee Lyles grew up in Fort Pierce and was an officer with the city's police department for six years before becoming a flight attendant in 2000.

Lyles and others aboard Flight 93 have been credited with preventing the plane's hijackers from reaching another target. The plane crashed into a rural field outside Shanksville, Pa.

State Sen. Ken Pruitt described Lyles as a "hometown hero" and an inspiration because she was an average person who possessed courage, character and generosity.

I would like to see a picture, if anyone can find one.

How many of us ordinary folk, going to work one morning like everyone else, would think we would end up immortalized in a statue for a heroic act?

How many of us think we would never get back home at all.

Let us be Thankful today for all our great blessings.
