Did anyone else just see Toby singing Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue? What a great day, from W in Iraq, to this. The crowd went nuts. I can't believe that CBS would actually show this. I guess the NFL realizes their fans sympathies lie.

Why does this surprise you? It's football, it's Thanksgiving, it's Dallas.

More of a suprise that CBS agreed to it let it be shown. Don't forget ABC and Peter Jennings canceled Toby when he wanted to sing it on their special. Hmm, where were the libs screaming censorship then?

It was great! I loved the Eagle. Nice to see someone who isn't afraid to show a little patriotism.
Good job Toby, you done good!

(Print the Lyrics)
American Girls and American Guys
We'll always stand up and salute
We'll always recognize
When we see Old Glory Flying
There's a lot of men dead
So we can sleep in peace at night
When we lay down our head
My daddy served in the army
Where he lost his right eye
But he flew a flag out in our yard
Until the day that he died
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy
In the land of the free.
Now this nation that I love
Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flyin' in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the 4th of July
Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shakin' her fist
And the eagle will fly
Man, it's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringin' her bell
And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue
Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you'll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
'Cause we'll put a boot in your ass
It's the American way
Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shakin' her fist
And the eagle will fly
Man, it's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringin' her bell
And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Clicked over just in time to see the last half, it was indeed a great show. I liked the big eagle being raised with the American flag in the background. Toby was excellent, sang from the heart.

Do not think they had a choice to show or 'not to show'. They signed up and on and no doubt had to just suck it up so to speak.

Bump for Toby. . .loved the 'eagle' also; and the 'red/white&blue'.
A rousing and impressive show, & coupled with GW's 'surprise' it was an especially good day. Of course, it was just a 'bad turkey day' for the anti-war; anti-Bush; anti-America crowd et al .
Of course, a bad day for any of them is a 'god day' for the rest of us.

I thought the delivery (and perhaps the words) were watered down. It's a song about an industrial-strength ass-kicking administered in Afghanistan, and during the best parts CBS showed film of Salvation Army personnel delivering groceries to free-loaders. (Gag.) Obviously the right background shot is a MOAB test or Baghdad by BLU-109 light.
The crowd knew the real song and didn't see the sappy pictures, so they went absolutely wild. I couldn't help thinking how discomforting the French and Canadians would have found even this very abashed (CBS was abashed) jingoism.
The real song makes the hair on the back of my head stand up. This rendition merely made me want to tell Al-Quadia that infidels on West 52nd Street were defiling Islamic virgins.

I was watching the Cowboys/Dolphins game and at halftime, I went upstairs to the computer room to take a quick peek on Free Republic to see what was going on in the world (I had been out of the loop all day) and discovered for the first time that Bush had been in Baghdad! So when I ran back downstairs, I was pumped. Then Toby Keith came on for the halftime concert and I was in the stratosphere. What a great day to be an American!
And too bad the Cowboys didn't win.

Remember that scene when our troops first rolled into Baghdad and parked a tank at the front door of one of Saddam's palaces? That was Captain Chris Carter and his tank named "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue."
That image is burned into my memory....a glorious moment in history.
